Adding button details - ideas & opinions needed

I bought a couple of ‘pinafore’ / ‘apron’ dresses on ASOS which I love but they look a little odd on - I think the seam at the front looks like it could be on backwards, despite the pockets, or that I’m actually wearing an apron! Just seems a little lacking in detail so wondering what I could do.

I thought of adding some buttons down the front seam and would like to know what you think of this idea and what colour buttons to go for. I thought dark gold for the denim, as on jeans, but unsure what will go with red.

Any opinions would be really helpful.

for the red, maybe a grey?

I think they look fine as they are, isn’t it just a normal denim seam?

Personally I think they would look odd with buttons down the front. I’ve seen some with a button front but they are actually button fronts (complete with the button hole).

Grey is a cool idea thanks. Yes it is just a normal seam (exact same on the back which might be part of the problem). I’d like to put some embellishment/detail at the front, may be something other than buttons would work but can’t think of other effective ideas.

With the red one I think solid grey could stand out too much, as they're purely decorative I'd opt for something with red in the mix. With the Jean one I think you'd need Jean covered buttons that match the dress. BTW, are they dresses? How long are they?

But I also think the pockets serve enough detail.

Thanks, I wouldn’t have thought to look at covered buttons. Yes they are dresses - they come about 2-3” above the knee. They do look very short in the pics, I think it’s just the angle.

Oh & the arm holes are low which adds to the illusion of them being short. What’s nice about the arm holes is it allows you to see a little more detail of whatever top you’re wearing under and looks more grown up (I think anyway!)
