Oscars themed ball, can I wear an lbd?

I’ve been invited to a charity ball, Oscars theme. I have a little black lace dress (long sleeved, sheer sleeves and top of back, the rest lined, with a small cut out a small of back). It’s just above knee length. Would this be appropriate with heels and black clutch? Never go to posh stuff and look like a child bridesmaid in long ball gowns! Do you have to go floor length for this type of thing or does what I’m planning sound ok?

Tia

I’m quite short and petite, I don’t know if that makes a difference or not.

Unless the invitation specifies white tie (which I highly doubt), then a cocktail dress will be fine. Charity black tie balls usually have a mixture of women in long dresses and short cocktail dresses - either are fine.

Only if the invitation says white tie would I suggest floor length being essential.

If its an annual thing, I'd check how much attention people pay to the theme and speak to others who are going to find out whether it's more ignored or embraced. Some times the theme can be virtually fancy dress and if its the type of event where everyone gets stuck in, unless you are themed you may stand out.

TBH I doubt it though - if it's just an Oscar theme, I bet most people will go black tie/cocktail dresses.

Thank you. I’ll see if I can look at an official invite.
