Doc Martens + skinnies = Max Wall?

Giggorata · 19/09/2018 10:32

I love my numerous pairs of Docs but mostly wear them with skirts/dresses of varying length, as wearing them with harems or any remotely baggy trousers makes me look like a builder or a radical feminist separatist lesbian from the 80s. (No offence intended - some of my best friends, etc....)
With skinnies, even with carefully rolled up gaps or socks, it tends towards the Max Wall look.
Is that because I'm a fat old biddy and this a look for the svelte only? Or is there some secret way to style them that I don't know?

Doc Martens + skinnies = Max Wall?

Not until you said that, but now...

VanillaSugary · 19/09/2018 12:07

Do you have a black bob haircut as well?

Barabajagal · 19/09/2018 12:09

Depends how high your forehead is I suppose. Grin

Try wearing them with the 4 or 5 holes empty of laces, just tie them at the base of the shaft. I do this to avoid the golf club look

elQuintoConyo · 19/09/2018 14:45

Total Max Wall when i was a 16yo slip-of-a-thing, or Olive Oil as my dad called me. Now in my early-40s i avoid skinny jeans but still wear my DMs with cigarette trousers, Hammerpants, cut-offs, boyfriend jeans - and skirts/dresses. Sometimes with leggings.

Long live Max Wall Grin

(I think we need photos of all of us out-Walling the Wall)

I wear my black ones with black skinnies all the time in winter! But proper skinnies that don't have excess fabric on the ankles, and tucked in. I do feel like I have to commit to a slightly grunge look with it so will wear with a thin dark-coloured jumper or checked shirt and leather jacket.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/09/2018 18:51

Ha, I used to get called that about 25 years ago 😂
It's fine now 'cos skinny jeans are such a standard look.

TonnoEMaionese · 19/09/2018 18:56

My Dad used to tell me that when I dressed that way as a girl...

TBH, I don't reckon many people will make the link any more :)

Try wearing them with the 4 or 5 holes empty of laces

Gotta agree with this - relaxes them a bit. I used to just lace up high enough as if they were a shoe.

TobysToblerone · 19/09/2018 19:10

This has made me smile Smile My grandad used to call me Max Wall in the 90s when I wore DMs & leggings. I haven’t thought of that for years

Bombardier25966 · 19/09/2018 19:20

I can't wear DM's with anything, look like a child in my dad's shoes. But my hairdresser lives in skinnies and DMs and looks hot. I'm jealous!

elQuintoConyo · 19/09/2018 21:11

Talk of the devil...

Doc Martens + skinnies = Max Wall?
babswindsor · 20/09/2018 06:10

Sorry OP but your thread has really made me laugh!

PhilomenaButterfly · 20/09/2018 06:11

Yes.

Giggorata · 20/09/2018 06:25

I'm laughing ruefully about it, too... the image won't go away

Top thread :o

Badtasteflump · 20/09/2018 10:36

This thread is making me cringe - I always fear I'm veering into Max Wall territory just because I have skinny calves and big old feet Blush

I think the sticking out bum is what seals the 'Max Wall' look so if I'm wearing skinny jeans I always make sure I have a long enough top to break it up a bit and 'De-Max' me...

MadisonAvenue · 20/09/2018 10:40

I’m in bits here Grin

MsHomeSlice · 20/09/2018 10:48

my Uncle used to pee himself laughing at me and my cousins in our boots and stick thin legs!

It's keeping the Max alive imo!!

EraOfTheGrey · 20/09/2018 13:36

Max Wall even has a Mums bob Grin

EraOfTheGrey · 20/09/2018 13:51

Mum bob I think is the correct term.
