Blonde highlighted hair, now too blonde

I’ve had my hair highlighted regularly for the past three years. It now looks way too blonde. I can’t get an appointment until mid-October to get some darker colour put in. Is there anything I can do myself in the meantime? Semi-permanent colour? Toner? Thanks.

Try to leave it alone. I was in the same boat and put a Nice 'n Easy semi permanent dark blonde colour on to tone it down. I ended up with orangy-pink hair that did not wash out ever. Wait for a professional to sort it out. It's not worth having a go yourself for the sake of a few weeks

what about highlights that are too dull, what can i use from boots to lighten them a bit.

Hi op, I’m a hairdresser, I’d wait until you can get an appt and get them to put a dime lowlite through it, that will tone it down, please don’t put a colour over the hilites yourself, it won’t turn out how you want!!😊

Lindyloo, yiu won’t get anything in boots that will brighten it without damaging your hair. If it’s recently done then go back and tell them it’s not bright enough and let them sort it out, if it’s a while since it was done it possibly just needs to be done again!

Purple shampoo to tone it down?

MarcieBlue · 15/09/2018 21:52

In sallys you can buy toner. Mix it with colour releaser on wet hair. Dialights pearly milkshake might work or one similar.

just wanted to add, it was a wella highlighter kit, it said leave on no longer than 50 mins, which i did, it seems that i needed to leave on a bit longer to get the light blonde shade.

I got highlights that were way too blonde once. After about two to three weeks, the toner had dulled down a lot! I'd give it some time to allow the toner to wash out, thus making it appear darker.

When you get it redone, get the hairdresser to put in streaks of your natural coloured hair through your hair, then when it grows out it’s more natural.
