T shirts with a belly - never going to work?

I’m size 8-10 and not overweight. However, I’m apple shaped (I think) with an obvious tummy. I’m currently out of shape with a tum that sticks out further than my boobs.

I am struggling with tops to wear with jeans. I don’t wear really fitted tops but I am finding anything t shirt like is really clinging to my tummy. I have some semi fitted ones in the next size up but the belly is obvious even in them (it has been commented on) Blush. I thought I could get away with non-fitted t shirts (PJ type t shirt tops) but I am finding them emphasising my gut and then sort of floating over my trousers which just looks awful.

Can I just not wear them any more? I am in a job where we wear that sort of casual stuff a lot and will struggle without it. I’ve googled what to wear with a tummy and none of it seems casual enough.

I am taking steps to get into shape but need to know what to wear now as breathing in constantly is just not sustainable.

You can get teeshirts with floaty bottom half, I'll have a look, can't remember what they're called

DontRecogniseMyself · 14/09/2018 20:40

Should have said I’m a size 10 in most places, not 8-10.

Yes please Holey.

I have looked at empire line, floaty type things but I look pregnant!

I've looked, all,I can see is on Espirit and jigsaw sale sites, they have got some really nice ones, what's your budget what about a loose linen top, hippy style top.

HoleyCoMoley · 14/09/2018 21:01

They're called peplum teeshirts, got a frilly bit at the bottom or under boobies. Smile

Oh thanks, I’ll have a look. Budget is usually more Sainsbury’s prices Grin but I may have to raise that.

Loose linen isn’t really me but then neither is the clinging to a beer gut look that I am currently rocking. I’ll check them out.

I wear linen t shirts. The best ones I have are from Oysho or Wrap. Linen jersey doesn’t cling like cotton and flatters my ( Ibs) stomach .

Tops with a knot at the bottom disguise a tummy well.

Thanks all. I have looked at peplum t shirts which look great. Never thought of linen shirts which also sound good.

Pancake, I have a t shirt with a knot in the bottom which sadly is too old to wear anymore really. Couldn’t really figure out why I loved it so much but now realise the flattering knot so I will definitely look at those.

Have you tried tucking your t-shirts in? Pull them out a bit at the back. I have a bit of a tummy and I find this works for me.

DontRecogniseMyself · 14/09/2018 22:03

Actually no, I hadn’t thought of that, will have a go Smile.

Thanks, this thread is just what I need too!

Waitingonasmiley42 · 14/09/2018 22:21

I have the same issues. Usually go with a cami vest top and cardigan.

DontRecogniseMyself · 14/09/2018 22:26

Hope it helps catsofa Smile.

Do you button the cardigan up Waiting?

I find t-shirts with a band at the bottom flattering.

DontRecogniseMyself · 14/09/2018 22:44

Thanks Queen, I’ll look into that.
