Any autumns around?

I've done a search but it's a bit tricky with so many threads about autumn fashion!

There used to be quite an active thread for autumns so I wondered if anyone is still around :)

I’m an autumn, but sometimes the colours can look too toned down for my liking, and colours like fuschia, red and teal “pop” a bit more and brighten things up.

teta · 16/09/2018 07:53

Yes I wear colours like that too Helzapoppin. I have a fuschia semi-sheer cashmere scarf that I love to wear with black or navy. I also suit coral reds and teals but not dark reds.
I was a complete failure at wearing a autumnal palette yesterday. My outfit was all black with a tan leopard scarf. Given that most trousers still come in black, grey, navy. Also as an apple in Winter I tend to wear the same colour top and bottom. I would love to wear dark Chocolate colours but they’re not yet available.

TheWombat · 16/09/2018 11:56

I’m a ‘blue autumn’ which means I suit petrol blue, olive, purple, chocolate brown and some flashes of bright red/orange. When I first got my swatches, I got lots of new clothes in those colours, but slowly I began to realise that I didn’t enjoy wearing them very much, and didn’t get any compliments from people. I started to realise that the colours don’t really match my personal style. It doesn’t help that I work in a quite corporate setting where autumn colours don’t seem to really fit.

Gradually I have shifted back to a much more classic, neutral palette based around cream, white, black, navy, grey and some pale peachy pinks. I’ve discovered that if I alter the texture of my clothing, I can wear a much broader range of colours. So for example instead of wearing muted colours, I will add depth and a ‘muted’ feeling in texture instead. For example black leather shoes or boots look dreadful on me, but by switching them to suede or velvet I can make them look great. Similarly, a crisp cotton white shirt looks horrific, but if I change the fabric to a softer, more drapey fabric like viscose or silk, I can wear a white shirt just fine.
I’ll try and add a few links of recent purchases in case it’s of interest..

Miketv · 16/09/2018 13:28

Teta and hellz - in the opposite. I suit dark reds, purples but not lighter colours.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 16/09/2018 13:33

That's interesting TheWombat, especially about the textures.

I've just been to Sainsbury's and they had a few things in autumn colours, especially knitwear.

I tend to wear any colour from the autumn palette really, though mostly the stronger ones.

I've had bowel surgery which makes waistbands a bit awkward, so I usually wear maternity jeans/trousers. It's hard to find them in any interesting colours so usually just blue denim. But I've just found a teal pair on ASOS that I'm going to try. Fingers crossed :)

I think this thread might be stressing me out a bit - I dreamt about the different types of navy last night and that I had to get rid of all my navy dresses! #losingtheplot

MassDebate · 17/09/2018 09:49

Oh dear, sorry for throwing everyone with the navy issue Blush!

teta · 17/09/2018 10:02

What a thing to dream about thereisnor.
wombat I think I’m similar to you in as much as I look awful in black leather but wear suede happily. I also love silk tops in creams, rose pink and teals. I have some Reiss/ Jigsaw jersey n silk ones I bought off BrandAlley, sales and some in hongkong for 10 dollars. I also don’t look good in very structured clothing. So soft drapey clothes are more my style.
I’m returning the recycled cashmere cardigan in browns as I just don’t feel comfortable in it. I’ve ordered a long beige cashmere cardigan from Tk Maxx to see how it looks like on me. But if it’s not right it will be returned.

TheWombat · 17/09/2018 10:14

Teta I think you might be my style twin! Love Reiss for silk camis and blouses, they have some quite promising ones in at the mo (pricey though..).
My colouring is quite high contrast (pale skin, dark hair) so I tend to put outfits together with shades at different ends of the scale. So cream with olive or pale peachy bronze with dark grey. But again if I play up different textures, I can get away with monochromatic dressing. I like drapey clothing too, but again there has to be some contrast in there somewhere. So a soft blouse with sharply cut skirt or trousers.

I love the idea of wearing beige/camel and love how luxe it can look on other women- but I just can’t make it work on me! I look like I’m recovering from flu..

SpeckledyHen · 17/09/2018 10:25

Slinky we are the same colouring and you have listed my best colours from my swatches :) Autumn - HOC 25 years ago .

fleuriepeninsula · 17/09/2018 11:02

Someone mentioned style earlier - I’m a natural classic so apparently my look is “expensive” Grin

At the moment I want a new winter coat in camel and also a leather pencil skirt ideally in chestnut. I’m waiting for more winter ranges to be released (and 20% discount codes!). So far I’ve seen coats at Karen Millen, Jaeger and Ted Baker that might suit.

TheWombat · 17/09/2018 18:05

Fleurie I think you might like this gorgeous leather skirt from Reiss..

BrassicaBabe · 17/09/2018 18:16

HOC autumn here. I'm another one who avoids navy. I can't spot a "french navy" for looking!!

Miketv · 17/09/2018 18:31

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm Autumn at all!

I suit dark red, purple, brown and dark green, but prefer white to cream, often wear navy. Pastels look awful on me, bright red and mustard don't look great either.

My veins are blue rather than green, my skin tone varies between yellow/pink (the consultant couldn't make her mind up), I have dark hair and eyes.

Does this sound like autumn??

teta · 17/09/2018 19:03

A Deep autumn Miketv?
To be honest I think a lot of it is bollocks. I received the jigsaw brochure today. The model in it has very similar colouring to me whilst being many years younger and a lot slimmer😁. She was wearing lots of black grey and cream and looked great

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 17/09/2018 19:07

Mind if I tag along? I'm fairly obviously an autumn although I've never done any kind of colour consultation. Colours which suit me are mustard, olive, purple, burgundy.

Navy doesn't suit me but luckily I was put off the colour for life by my secondary school uniform.

I really like the next mustard jumper.

BrassicaBabe · 17/09/2018 20:48

Khaki is my black since I had my colours done Smile

goose1964 · 17/09/2018 22:09

I'm an autumn and I love the dark arranged that are around, I actually own a mustard jumper and everyone says how much it suits me. I'm lucky though I'm not to bad in pastels as per the spring

goose1964 · 17/09/2018 22:10

Oranges not arranged

fleuriepeninsula · 18/09/2018 10:14

TheWombat I love that.

I ordered this skirt yesterday as Whistles has 20% off and John Lewis had one skirt left in my size - hopefully it’s more brown than burgundy in the flesh. If it doesn’t work I’ll definitely try the Reiss skirt.

teta · 18/09/2018 11:36

I like khaki too brassicababe. It’s very easy to wear. I love that leather skirt fleurie. Wombat your aspirational clothes choices are fantastic. Especially the fake fur in grey that now appears to have sold out and the long grey suede boots. I never knew I coveted grey suede boots until now.
The camel long cashmere cardigan I ordered from Tk Maxx is seriously thick good quality cashmere. Almost more of a coatigan. It’s great belted at the back but would have to be worn open as it doesn’t fasten all the way around my tummy. Anyway I’ve brought it home to see if it works with jeans, tops etc. Any clothes that don’t currently work I’m flogging on eBay. I found several cashmere mix Ann Taylor jumpers I bought years ago in a hk outlet sale that are too small now that will hopefully sell.

TheWombat · 18/09/2018 23:45

Teta those boots are crazy money but I do see them on eBay now and then and I have an alert set for if any come on within my price range! I also found some in taupe which might be a more ‘traditionally’ autumn colour but I thought that might be harder to wear in English drizzle. There’s cheaper but similar ones in the White Company and surprisingly Reiss (also in chestnut) too..

Navy fans: I find navy works really well if I put it with accessories in other ‘autumn’ colours like tan, chestnut, olive etc. I have a navy wool blazer that I like to wear with tan nubuck boots. And sadly I am not imaginative enough to stop wearing black or navy skinnies... I tried to make khaki and chocolate my dark neutrals but failed hopelessly.. I am definitely a ‘failed autumn’ Grin

Other things on my ‘autumn but not’wish list:
A cheaper dupe of this bronzey Reiss cami which will look fab with grey /navy etc: www.reiss.com/account/wishlist/product-detail/2632216/

And Bobbi Brown has brought out this delicious eye palette which looks quite autumn friendly without being sludgey:
m.bobbibrown.co.uk/product/2330/62015/makeup/eyes/eye-shadow/nude-drama-eye-palette/fh18

I have a Pinterest for ‘Autumn’ clothing but am thinking of making another one for autumns who are less strict and want to include grey, navy etc. I find it massively helpful when thinking about colour palettes..

fleuriepeninsula · 19/09/2018 08:00

TheWombat I really don’t see a problem with Autumns wearing navy for the same reasons as you - it looks great with Autumn colours. I personally find some of the matchy-matchup Autumn style to be a bit much, and it’s also really tough to find work clothes in brown and olive!

I don’t have any black tips/bottoms but I find good ankle boots so hard to come by (big feet and skinny ankles!) that I wear black boots & tights in winter too. Again, I think chestnut and black look great together - as long as it’s not near my face!
