No idea never heard of a mum bob, doesn’t sound flattering

Bluntness100 · 13/09/2018 19:39

It's just your bog standard bob, straight, lifeless, that is easy to wear and doesn't need styling,

GlossyGlossy · 13/09/2018 19:39

I'd hazard a guess that it's one of those graduated bobs that's layered to the chin at the front but shaped shorter at the back. I've also heard it called a "speak to the manager" haircut...

It's a concave Bob I think. The kids one that's longer at the front than the back. God knows why it's called that, effort to do everyday.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 13/09/2018 19:41

Lol,speak to the manager sounds well dodgy.like asking for a Phil Mitchell cut

donajimena · 13/09/2018 19:41

I thought it was like lego hair?

Atalune · 13/09/2018 19:42

I think these are the general idea with the boots.

I've never understood mum bobs. I know loads of women who have had their hair chopped off to bob length because 'it's easier and I don't have the time for long hair anymore' but actually it's loads more faff to look after.

But in answer to the op - I agree that a mum bob is the 'I want to speak to the manager' bob - pedalled by hairdressers as it's supposedly east to look after and you can just tuck your hair behind your ears. In reality it looks a mess without a blow dry every single morning.

Honflyr · 14/09/2018 09:21

They only look like a "mum-bob" on certain people, if the rest of your style is mumsy. There's a lot of variation and they can look lovely.

A bob when sported by a mum?

SoupDragon · 14/09/2018 09:28

Why do people us “mum” as an insult?

starzig · 14/09/2018 09:49

Just because mum's have greater responsibility and can't go out as much or be as spontaneous etc.. and are therefore seen as sensible and boring.

IJustLostTheGame · 14/09/2018 10:31

So does Anna Wintour sport a mum bob? I think she's both scary and fabulous.
She never looks like she couldn't be arsed.

thenightsky · 14/09/2018 10:35

I had an Anna Wintour bob for years and thought I looked quite 'sharp and sort of no-nonsense efficient'. Then it dawned on me it was mum bob. I've now got bra strap length hair and it is MUCH easier to deal with than that bloody bob that needed straighteners and serums and stuff every day.

pumpkinyael · 14/09/2018 10:37

I've never heard the term mum boots... Or mum bob.

Speak to the manager haircut makes much more sense imo. They tend to be faffy and therefore perfect for someone with a lot of time on their hands...

Bluntness100 · 14/09/2018 10:43

I'm not sure it's an insult as such, although agree in these terms it's not complimentary. I'd also say it's probably more women than men use it. It's really used to describe a look that can be typical of busy mums. A bit dowdy really.

wasnotwasweregood · 14/09/2018 11:01

I can send you a pic of my noggin in my 30s to illustrate it if you like! I think it's basically any mid-length hair cut which you've been conned into believing will be less hassle than than your lustrous long pre-kids tresses.
It was a lot more hassle than long hair and although the cut wasn't in and of itself dowdy, because I didn't have the time, (or skills, or inclination), for the kind of blow-drying and styling that a good bob would require on my mid-texture slightly wavy hair. It quickly looked dowdy and like I couldn't be bothered with my appearance anymore.

SoupDragon · 14/09/2018 11:16

I'm not sure it's an insult as such

Of course it is! It’s used in a derogatory fashion.
