Can I ask about jeans?

I hate buying jeans. Hate, hate it. Thus I have two pairs of the same jeans that I bought approx 4 years ago. I know boot cut are out. I can't wear skinnies because I'm a curvy average height size 14-16 (weight all on hips, thighs and bum). So what style do I go for (not uber trendy) that I can pull off and won't make me cry because I'm so hideously shaped. Any advice would be very, very welcome.

In return may I recommend body shop bouncy sleeping mask - odd texture but does a great job and reasonable if you have a voucher or offer code.

Have you tried straight or slim leg? They are a little more relaxed and straighter through the calf and ankle so more flattering for big hips/thighs. I havent tried them but the uniqlo cigarette trousers seem well liked and also I've seen Next and Levis recommended

I think high-waisted skinny jeans look great on curvy women, although obviously don't wear something you wouldn't feel comfortable in.

I think 'mom' jeans would look great on you, I don't know if they're "in" right now though as I don't tend to follow trends.

I really don't think you will be 'hideously shaped' - please remember that this is just your own perception of yourself, and not how others see you. Flowers

I would also say straight cut or girl friend jeans, girl friend jeans are slightly more relaxed than skinny so the extra width on your lower legs will balance out you hips and thighs. And like others have said, only you think your shape is hideous. I bet it isn't and I bet you are a normal shaped curvy woman!

TakeMe2Insanity · 08/09/2018 07:29

Gap real straight jeans are very flattering if you have weight on your bottom and thighs. Theres enough in the lower leg/calf area to balance out the top without acres of material. Plus theres always a promo code on.

I recommended these on another thread the other day. Uniqlo cigarette style jeans. I have a big arse and thighs and they are the best fitting jeans I've had on years.
The 'jeans for the large of arse' thread is well worth a read. Some M&S, Levi's and Top Shop jeans recommend on there that I'm definitely going to try.

OzymandiasFanClub · 08/09/2018 08:53

Go to somewhere like John Lewis (&Partners) and try try try. They have so many different brands and cuts and shapes ( and prices) to try, all from the same shop. Their own brands, warehouse, Oasis, Whistles, Jigsaw, White Stuff, Levi's, NYD....
Even try skinnies. You say you're average height, you are also average size. I've got thighs like Chris Hoy but I still wear skinnies- very dark and very stretchy. I know the fashionistas say they're over but I'm not a fashionista sort of person.

Thank you all so much, plenty of recommendations to get me going and you've been so kind about my chicken drumstick legs. Honestly the last time I bought jeans I ended up crying into my mirror because most of them made me look dreadful. I'm not always so unconfident about my appearance - jeans are my Achilles heel 😀

Tesco mum jeans. You cannot go wrong!

pastabest · 08/09/2018 21:03

If you have a Next nearby it's definitely worth going and trying on a pair of their skinny 'Lift, slim and shape' jeans. I also have chicken drumstick legs and I love these they just 'fit' in a way other jeans don't. I don't get builders bum when I bend down in them for starters.

Levi 514

Don't bother with next or Tesco

Alibaba87 · 08/09/2018 21:06

I second uniqlo

Processedpea · 08/09/2018 21:07

All uniqlo jeans are l34

I always thought I couldn't wear skinny jeans until I actually got the right pair on and lost about a stone instantly. Try them with longer cut tops if you carry weight around the middle.

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2018 21:44

I’m the same shape as you OP. Boden Trafalgar straightlegs are your friend.

Zoflorabore · 09/09/2018 08:00

Op I am a size 18 and have found the most amazing jeans. They're a high waist skinny but stretchy and are available in loads of colours ( indigo/dark denim/grey/black etc ).

They are from Peacocks and are called "Kate" and are only £14 a pair.
They give me a brilliant shape and are the most comfortable jeans I've ever wore.
I have every colour in the range Grin

A very genuine thank you to you all - I have a long list to review/search for and order. I put it off today (hungover) but I'm going to order a shed load of jeans in the next couple of days and see what I can pull off. I see Next is a yes/no and I don't know if 34l is bad or not - I think I'm 5 foot 6 😀
