What do you think?

The style is my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE coat style EVER, it suits me down to the ground. I had a funnel neck coat years ago that I eventually had to ditch after too much wear and it was one of my most-loved things I've ever owned.

I don't need it to be a warm winter coat, in fact I don't WANT it too warm; I run quite hot and live in London where (usually) winters aren't even that cold. I have a puffa warm winter coat for cold days anyway. This is meant to be something for autum days and nippy mornings.

I suppose my doubts are: is it a lot of money for the quality? The cut is beautiful but it's not pure wool (an acrylic/wool mix) and I'm normally fussy about things like that. That said, I don't think £180 is a LOT to pay for a coat (don't get me wrong, it's not el cheapo by any means but I don't think I've ever bought anything like a decent coat for less than £100-£150...)

And will the herringbone pattern get all fluffy and/or just annoy me after a while?

Pros are that I love love love the style, it fits really well and I like the colour.

Thoughts...?

You love the coat. Keep it and enjoy it. Life is too short for feeling guilty about things like this. You could spend all Winter looking for another and not finding it. Maybe it will get fluffy eventually, there's no way of knowing, but enjoy it in the meantime.

Thank you MoltonSilver: coat has had its tags removed and it's now hanging beautifully in my wardrobe. Now I am just willing the weather to take a turn for the chillier so I can wear it!

I knew it would be that coat when I saw you say it was JL! I love it. Tried it on today and would have bought it if I was a bit taller.

JessiCake · 06/09/2018 20:21

oh, distance, it's lovely isn't it?

I was literally dashing out of JL in a hurry to get somewhere when i saw the coat and had to make myself 5 mins late to try it on! and then buy it

A rushed purchase, which is odd for me (I usually think for about a month and then miss out!) which is partly why I wanted to canvass opinion from stylish people on here.

Probably style-snobbery but I would never normally have looked at John Lewis own-brand at all! Perhaps the swanky new styling of the 'and partners' bit has lulled me in!

But it's even nicer in real life, I'd not have been sure if I'd just seen it online tbh (hence my usual habit of missing out on good stuff cos I overthink it) but there's something gorgeous about it.

Not sure I'm elegant enough to pull it off but I will try!

JL brand stuff is lovely. Our John Lewis is quite new here (Birmingham) and so I didn’t know what to expect but love their stuff. You won’t regret it!

Love it, it's not boring black

I wish I could justify a new coat this winter because I really want that one.
