Do you use them before or after mascara?

Before.

Do these actually work? I've never owned a pair...

Definitely before, after mascara could break off some of your eyelashes. They definitely work for me but all eyelash curlers are not created equally. I have ones by shiseido which fit over my eye really well. Shu umera were always touted as the best but they didn’t work so well for me. I’ve heard body shop are pretty good for inexpensive ones but not tried myself

The rule is to use before, but I honestly never bother. The only time I use them is when I apply false lashes to merge my own lashes with the false ones

Before, it would crunch up your lashes if you use after

Warm them up with a hairdryer before using, always use before mascara

Anyone have tips for keeping them clean?

I just wipe with a tissue if I ever get mascara on them

I have an ancient pair of BodyShop ones that I keep going back to, even tried the Shu Umera ones , new BS ones, MrMascara, Revitalash ones...none compare.
DD has Tarte curlers which are her favourite but ...she had LVLs a few weeks ago and is now converted to that (I need to rebook her )

They make a huge difference to me. If it was a choice between curlers or mascara I would choose the curlers. Think I must have very straight eyelashes! Always before mascara. I also use shu umuru.

I’m going to disagree and say definitely after mascara! You’ll be amazed at how much more effective it is. If I curl before, the mascara just weighs down my lashes and the curl drops. Make sure your mascara is dry and release the curlers very carefully so as not to pull lashes out. I did once pull the curlers off my lashes too quick and managed to rip them all out 😱 but that’s the only time that’s happened in the 20odd years I’ve been doing it.

I use them before and after but tbh I notice more of a difference using them after mascara. The curl drops out of mine too once I put mascara on! So I need an extra curl after to keep it in

This may sound grotty but I used to get inflamed eyelids from using them too long without a clean - am thinking hand sanitiser or an antibacterial wipe every once in a while? I have oily eyelids which may be the issue
