Old lady lashes

helpmyeyelashes · 05/09/2018 12:11

I'm going to a wedding soon and I would like, for one day, to have my lashes back. They all seemed to fall out when the clock struck midnight on my 40th birthday.

I don't have any time before the wedding to go and get extensions or lifts so I was thinking about wearing some falsies.

Can anyone give me some tips on what to buy and how best to apply? I have never worn false eyelashes in my life so I don't want them to be stuck to my chin after three glasses of champers. I'm also quite useless with most make up.

I'm after a 'natural look' rather than a RuPaul look.

Please help my old lady lashes you lovely people.

Have you got a Mac counter near you? I think they'll apply false lashes for you, provided you buy them from that counter. Probably best to check though, and you might need to book.

Loonoon · 05/09/2018 12:15

Some make up counters (definitely MAC) will fit lashes if you buy them from them. You might need to book though.

BumbleeBeeMe · 05/09/2018 12:16

Could you go and get some subtle extensions?

helpmyeyelashes · 05/09/2018 12:16

Thanks! I didn't know they do that. I have a Debenhams near will check if they have Mac. Would they have to be put on just before the wedding? The wedding is in the middle of nowhere so it might not be an option.

Have been told that extensions take ages to do? Time is against me. If I can find some time what should I ask for?

I’m not sure if they would stay on overnight! Ring them and ask.

MrsJayy · 05/09/2018 12:23

My sister gets hers falsies put on at at he benefit counter (im sure) . I get my lifted I feel like betty boop after I am done Grin I didn't know thinning eyelashes were another part of ageing

Shelvesoutofbooks · 05/09/2018 12:24

The thing is that false lashes aren't exactly easy to apply and take some getting used to. If you really want to risk it, try the eylure range in superdrug - they have a multipack of natural looking falsies I believe. Also ardell lashes are very good. The kind of lashes you buy also depends on what kind of eyeshape you have.

So really, if you manage to have a few hours to spare - go get extensions. Takes about 2 hrs but they last for weeks and you won't have to worry about mascara

MrsJayy · 05/09/2018 12:24

A lash lift takes under an hour to get done.

helpmyeyelashes · 05/09/2018 12:29

Thanks all - I don't think I am confident enough to put lashes on. I will have to go for extensions then.

MrsJayy it was a surprise to me too. I used to have lovely lashes and now have about five left. And don't get me started on my hair and knees (I still have my knees but they hurt.....)

Lisa Eldridge has a couple of videos about applying false lashes.

Individuals

MrsJayy · 05/09/2018 12:38

Nobody tells you this stuff do they ?

MaryBoBary · 05/09/2018 12:40

I would just say you are better off getting extensions. I am hopeless at applying false lashes and you wouldn’t want to look like the poor dear who’s attempted it. I’m sure someone will be able to squeeze you in. The facebay sites are a good place to ask for someone local do do it for you.

helpmyeyelashes · 05/09/2018 12:46

[Big grin] at poor dear. That would definitely be me, complete with hairpiece askew.

Right I am going to go with extensions. Been having a look at some prices and am now bamboozled with 3D, half 3D, classic, individual... Help!

As you can see at my attempt at smiley face, I'm new to MN.

Individual could be good for you as they can ensure they don’t look overly thick but I’m sure whoever you choose will be able to talk through the options with you. Have a google of the different types and see what you are drawn too.

cardoon · 05/09/2018 13:09

You're funny, please stay! Grin

MrsRonBurgundy · 05/09/2018 13:16

If you don't manage to get extensions in time, could you consider booking a make up artist, they'll put false lashes on for you. When I go to weddings I usually get my make up done first thing in the morning (once as early as 9am for a 2pm wedding) and she put my lashes on for me as I can't do it myself!! Also my whole face lasted all day, just needed to powder my nose on the evening.
I've had it done all over the country and usually pay £30-£40 for the face including lashes (I always ask for individual ones as they look more natural)

helpmyeyelashes · 05/09/2018 13:36

Thanks all I have booked an appointment to get extensions with a salon which is open late. Bloody pricey like! Now onto my bushy eyebrows, a 'clutch' bag, hatinator....where will it stop?

I'm sorry but weddings are nice but they are also a right pain in the arse for the slovenly among us. I'm part of the family as well so it's not like I can be the bit-part guest who hides in the back in a fleece. Wish me luck.

You could try some of the new magnetic ones. I've got some coming from
Amazon today, my colleague got some and said they were easy to put on and obviously no faffing with glue which I can't be arsed with.

Ivaidea · 05/09/2018 17:17

OP - why not describe them as "sparse" eyelashes?

MrsJayy · 05/09/2018 17:21

How does magnetic lashes work i am honestly baffled Confused I think the Op can call her eyelashes whatever she likes

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 05/09/2018 21:12

Magnetic ones look fab. There’s an upper and lower bit to them and they clamp together with your eyelashes in the middle.

I’m waiting for someone I know to try them and report back.
