Where to shop when I'm size 20 and short

I had some brilliant advice in a thread last week about how to dress for a new job.

I've been prompted to try to dress less like a frump and to take a bit more care of my appearance. I live very really, so I've been ordering a few things and sending back what doesn't fit or suit me. I've got a new Joules dress which looks lovely, but I'm struggling to find other shops which suit me.

Any suggestions?

Get thee to a sainsbury. Seriously.

Thank you. I'll give them a try.

In my above post really = rurally. I also have fat fingers!

I have the same issue and it drives me nuts, you can be average height and plus size you can be tall and plus size but very few shops cater for short and plus size.

New Look can be good but mostly online

Joules is great

Seasalt is good if you like their styles

Dorothy Perkins can be good - am currently in love with their lift and shape jeans

Next is good for tops but a bit shit on trousers - although if you are good with a needle you could take them up

M&S has its moments - good for slacks

Ebay. Seriously, you can get some bargains if you are canny. I stalk clothes from Rundholz Black Label, Ischiko and Privatsachen

If you like the vintage look, LadyVLondon has larger sizes and is quite cheap. Collectif also go quite large.

I like Cos but I find them small of armhole, no good for apple shapes and very poor for large busts. Having said that, I'm wearing a Cos dress today.

Boden (naturally)
Elvi
ASOS Curve

Actually I am apple shaped - size 18/20 and 5ft 4 ins and (choosing carefully) have got 2 dresses from Cos that I love. Strangely though I am very tummified, it is the bust that is hard to cater for!

eBay and simply be has some nice stuff.

Be mindful of the simply be stuff though as I've had two dresses split (before wearing) as the fabric was so this. Think floaty dresses.

GraceMarks · 04/09/2018 10:21

White Stuff can be good for larger sizes, but they're a bit hit and miss on the frump front! I also find a lot of their tops too low-cut so if you have generous boobage you might want to be selective with their stuff.

woolythoughts · 04/09/2018 10:25

I'm 5'3''and a size 20/22

I shop almost exclusively in:

  1. MArisota
  2. Simply be (virtualy the same as Marisota but some small differences)
  3. Sainsbury
  4. ASda

in that order.

But then I'm happy in jeggings and tunics for work and for play.

So maybe I can't comment

Stompythedinosaur · 04/09/2018 12:36

Thank you everyone. I've ordered some stuff from Dorothy Perkins and Sainsburys, and I'll see how they are when they arrive.

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

As a very tall plus size I would say virtually anywhere. As everywhere seems to cater for petite and plus size but absolutely nowhere caters for tall and plus size.
Depends on your taste and budget. Have you tried a personal shopper at Debenhams or John Lewis or maybe M&S, Simplybe, ASOS or YOURS.
We have very few high street stores locally and non cater for me.
Good luck 🍀👍🏻 OP.

Have you shopped in Yours, Waltzing? No store near me but I was in a city with one recently. I'm 5'2 and size 18.
A lot of tops were almost knee length on me. Definitely designed towards the taller person in my opinion.

CatherineMaitland · 07/09/2018 09:01

How about Mango Violeta?

Waltzingmatilda65 · 09/09/2018 22:53

Pinkkahori - I have tried yours but not keen on the fabrics I find them itchy and or overly hot to wear. I have tried some dresses and tops on in the past but find they aren’t cut to flatter a 6 footer as the waists are often in the wrong place.
