I'm short. Does anywhere do midi skirts for shorties?

Just the really. I'm 5'1" and longish in the body, inside leg is a whopping 27"!! I love the midi skirts I'm seeing at the moment from places like Zara and Rico but frankly they all skim the floor on me. Is there anywhere at all that sells midi length skirts or dresses for shortarses like me?

Most petite ranges I've looked at are so frumpy and those that aren't - looking at you Topshop - seem to think that if you're petite you must wear a miniskirt. Not in hot weather and at my age (44) thanks.

Watching as I want the same.

ASOS maybe? They have a plain one in a few colours a few weeks back

chasegirl · 02/09/2018 23:17

I would like the answer too. Same height and leg as you but 47.

Petite ranges seem to think we are twee and sweet not full grown (almost!) women. Why can't they just do the same as the other ranges just shorter?!? Very frustrating

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 03/09/2018 07:03

Oh I have found my people. I am sick and tired of the petite offerings. There seems to be the extremes, e.g Top Shop for late teens or Precis Petite for the late 60s. Nothing in between!!! (I am late 40s and 5.2")

My Mum is 4 foot 11 and often buys girls’ clothes.

In fact I’m 5 foot 4 and most of my trousers/jeans/jeggings are age 13/14 as they are huge.

No VAT on children’s clothes. It’s a win win.

Personally I'm a similar height with similar leg length and cannot think of anything more unflattering on me than a midi skirt. IMO skirts need to be knee length or shorter on me to look flattering.

If it's something you're that keen on, how about getting one and getting it altered to fit?

CountFosco · 03/09/2018 07:21

ASOS has a big petite range so always worth a look. Boden also has a big petite range although the non-patterned options are always black or navy which is fine but ultimately gets boring.

INeedNewShoes · 03/09/2018 07:26

Next online seem to offer two lengths in a lot of things.

ShackUp · 03/09/2018 07:31

I'm 5'4'' with short legs and I wouldn't touch a midi-skirt, they aren't flattering. Maybe if I was skinnier? (Size 12)

littlesquish · 03/09/2018 07:44

Topshop petite range

ArkAtEee · 03/09/2018 08:24

I get things altered. It costs less that £10 per piece, so you just have to allow that on top of the price when considering if it's worth it.

MinesaBottle · 03/09/2018 11:28

I'm glad I'm not the only one out there! Will have another look at ASOS...most petite skirts seem to be mini and I'm not ready to get my legs out!! I love fashion and it's so annoying that i seem doomed to miniskirts!!!

I'm 5ft and today I'm wearing a Next midi pencil skirt and I think it's flattering... Hmm maybe I have mirror blindness

lulla12345 · 03/09/2018 13:08

I’m 5ft 3 and buy from ASOS, Next or sometimes Dorothy Perkins for petite. Just ordered this from Next

I'm 5'2" and have had plenty of flattering midi skirts over the years. I'm wearing an H&M one right now that's too long, though. Unfortunately it has pleats so I can't turn it up.

I think clothing manufacturers have suddenly started to aim their normal height clothes a good few inches taller than they used to! I used to wear a lot of Topshop and wasn't fussed about their Petite stuff, despite my height, but all of a sudden the Petite stuff looks a lot better. Average height for women in the UK used to be 5'4" - is it still that? My very unscientific measure of trying on clothes occasionally suggests that a lot of shops now assume women to be more like 5'6".

ShackUp · 03/09/2018 13:47

Like I said, I'm short of leg and a size 12. I expect if you're thin and have a better leg/torso proportion, you'll rock a midi...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/09/2018 13:49

Quick Google shows that H&M caters for an inside leg measurement of 31 inches for its regular range and 28.5 inches for Petite. I am sure standard jeans used to be 30 inches inside leg!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/09/2018 13:51

Shack, I'm a size 12 too - not sure what my actual inside leg measurement is, though! It's maybe just body/leg shape dictating which skirt lengths are flattering, rather than body size.

8dayweek · 03/09/2018 15:30

Loads of petite stuff on the likes of Boohoo / MissGuided but, generally speaking, the quality isn't there. Handy for beachy / garden dresses I guess.

ChesterBelloc · 03/09/2018 16:08

I'm under 5'2, small waist, and find that if I buy skirts that are meant to be 'knee-length' (i.e. just under) on normal-height people, they often end up a good midi length on me!

Failing that, I bought a navy midi skirt from Uniqlo which fits well. Juuust about midi rather than ankle on me.
