Dresses with long boots

Ok .so it’s many many years since I have worn dresses and skirts , having been fat for 25 years and lived in jeans & trousers . I’ve lost a lot of weight since the start of the year and my old hour glass shape has emerged again - but a bit more padded than my teens and twenties but that’s fine .
I’d like to wear knee length boots with a bit of a heel with dresses an skirts but don’t know what is right any more !
Please help me !
Should knees show ? Should hems be below the top of the boots ?

Any help with finding any dresses for the autumn / winter would be a great help .Or directing me where I can get inspiration ....

I would go for midi length dresses (below the knee) with knee high boots so the whole leg is covered. Does this sort of thing take your fancy?

It's tricky! I always like to wear knee high boots with an above knee dress/skirt, but fashionistas will tell you it HAS to be a midi now.

For me, personally, this is where fashion and I part. I look awful in a midi with long boots. So I keep wearing mini or mid_thigh with kneehigh boots Grin

I like dresses from Joe Browns (also not fashion, I know), Desigual (crazy patterns), Massimo Dutti (classic), Joules (mumsy according to MN but I like it) and H&M

Have fun looking around what suits you Smile

Thank you Amy - I love the length and flair of that dress . It’s a bit too girly for me and too low .In my dreams I’m young again and 6 inches taller than my 5’ 2” and it would be perfect .

Peanut thanks for the great post and brands to try .
I go back to the dark ages of minis ( pelmets ! ) and knee high boots but am too far over the hill now but still love that look. There are so many in the shops now that are exactly what I used to wear much to my dad’s horror !
Not bothered about fashion as such but don’t want to look silly . I don’t have a daughter to help me out either so hoping to get help from MN .

Amy, love how the dress looks on the model. On me it'd look wrong Sad just sent a bunch of dresses back in that style.

Liking some of the Joe Brown styles - anything else similar out there ?

I love queen rania style fashion. If only i had her body, hair, money etc etc

Nomads are similar, I find the odd piece from them each season and then absolutely love it. The quality has always been very good too. The same goes for Thought clothing (previously Braintree).

Love Nomads ! - thank you Kitty .

I am also v short, and the midi length is terrible for me!
I usually wear knitted dresses to the knee (I will be honest and admit that some of my "dresses" are sold as tunics Wink) with knee high boots.
I have just bought a couple of fat Face dresses in the sale which are just below the knee, to wear this autumn, I think they'd be above the knee on any models!

PhilODox · 02/09/2018 10:38

I would say that joules (despite its mumsy label) is quite good as the fabrics are thick, and when I'm feeling less-than-svelte I like a thicker fabric than lots that are in more fashion-led shops.

Well done on the weight loss Thanks

Loonoon · 02/09/2018 10:41

Like Phil I am short so tend to wear tunics as midthigh dresses with opaque tights and boots to at below the knee length.

With middle aged spread I have become very thick waisted and it I wore dresses that covered the top of the boot it would hide my slim legs and make me look chunky all the way down.

Kittyclax · 02/09/2018 10:53

I’m the same Loonoon, no way I’m hiding my legs in the name of fashion! The exception to the rule is with a couple of dresses I have that give me the shape of a waist (on a good day), even then I prefer a calf length boot. Luckily along with the thicker waist has also come a fabulous I don’t care what other people think attitude.

Kittyclax · 02/09/2018 10:55

I’m glad you like Nomads op, there are a few bargains on eBay occasionally, usually of past season stock.

SpeckledyHen · 02/09/2018 15:05

There’s a bit of a flaw in the plan at the moment- I can’t find any boots that I like . Might be stuck in jeans a bit longer .........
