Curly ponytail or frizzy mess?

ChopOrNot · 31/08/2018 19:49

For as long as I can remember I have never had successful/nice day-2 hair. Curlyness just looks like a total walk-through-hedge-backwards horror in the morning. Some bits flattened, all of it fluffy/frizzy. So without fail I wash my hair every day.

If I am off to the gym/a run I do shove it in a pony tail until after my workout. This is the only time in my life I wear pony-tails. I am shite at doing pony tails. I don't really know what I am doing - although I think I have sussed it looks a bit better on me higher up rather than lower down.

DD (12yo) has been saying it looks really pretty in a pony tail and I should wear it like this more often - not just to the gym. I am not convinced.

To be honest it would be great if it did look OK, as work demands are changing and not having to wash every morning would be fab.

So please, S&B, be honest (but kind-ish) - if I were to walk into work (school) with hair like this would you double take in horror or not even notice (ie could I get away with it). I just see the 46 year old skin, wrinkles and frizzy pouffy bits

Thank you.

I think it looks really pretty in your picture. Higher up definitely suits your face

Mumof4under10 · 31/08/2018 19:54

I think it looks really nice Smile

GummyGoddess · 31/08/2018 19:58

I think it looks nice, it shows off your jawline very well.

MarthaHanson · 31/08/2018 19:59

You can totally wear it like that-it looks nice and you have a great face!
I have curly hair and have the same day 2 issues-I use cantu curl reviver spray in the mornings of day 2 and 3 and it zhushes the curls up again.

Hazardswan · 31/08/2018 20:16

Perfectly respectable no one will bat an eyelid.

Karenoid · 31/08/2018 20:18

Looks lovely and you certainly don't look 46 !

Whyhellodaffodil · 31/08/2018 20:29

I wear mine like that on day 2 :) (and on day 1 if it all goes horribly wrong! The joys of curly hair!)

Ohyesiam · 31/08/2018 20:34

I like it.
Have you tried steaming it over a kettle on day two( honestly, I’ve done it every morning for 35 years), or putting a small blob of gel or whatever on your hands , wetting them, rubbing them together and then running them through your hair.

ChopOrNot · 31/08/2018 20:42

Thank you, I think I may brave it next week!

Not tried steam! May give that a go too. My hair is very fine and the morning horrors are a mixture of flattened curls as well as the frizz. I have recently started putting it up at night in a "pineapple" a la curly girl method and it does seems to help - there are some ringletty bits still formed by morning....

It looks nice. Have you tried softening the front by allowing some tendrils to fall over the forehead a get tucked behind your ear, or left in a corkscrew curl?

DianaT1969 · 31/08/2018 20:53

Something like this.

I didn't realise day 2 curly hair was a 'thing'... Explains everything!

LittleWingSoul · 31/08/2018 22:38

And it looks great up BTW OP. Mine is so thick that when I tie it up I lose the curls and it just looks pants and brushy and bushy!

rightknockered · 31/08/2018 23:23

When I put my wavy hair up, I wear it much higher on top of my head and wrap it around in a bun out of the way. It smooths out the frizz and looks quite nice I think.

BearFoxBear · 01/09/2018 07:04

I think the ponytail suits you!

I have similar hair but only wash (and brush!) it twice a week. When it gets washed I brush it, wash and condition, then wrap it up in a hair turban thing or tshirt for 10 minutes. I then either blow dry on a low heat, teasing it apart with fingers or a wide toothed comb, or leave it to dry naturally. I finish it off with Lush R&B cream - amazing stuff, it smoothes and moisturises frizz into beautiful waves and curls. It's the best hair product I've ever bought and I buy it religiously.

Every night I twist my hair up in a big silky pair of knickers!! It sounds mad, but my hair pants (as they are commonly known!) give me an amazing curl without hard kinks in the wave and are soft enough to sleep on. If I'm home, my hair is in hair pants! Sexy Grin

This has transformed my frizzy mess into silky-smooth swishyness!

P. S do not leave your hair pants in the car when giving your dad a lift somewhere Grin

It looks lovely in a ponytail! I sympathise, it has taken me years to master my curly hair, but finally I have found a way to only need to wash it every 6 days.

Sallycinnamum · 01/09/2018 07:12

I have curly hair too and can only wear it down if it's just been washed. So I wear mine up a lot in ponytail, buns etc.

I let mine dry naturally and yesterday it looked lovely. Day 2 and we'll put it this way, I'll be ponytailing it today!

Stpancras · 01/09/2018 07:14

Often recommended on here OP, but have you tried The Curly Girl method? Revolutionised my life with curly hair

chapthedoor · 01/09/2018 08:02

I have curly hair and I wear it down almost every day. I wash it once a week but other days just rinse in the shower and add products then dry with a diffuser, Or you could get a spray bottle (from £ shop) and fill it with waster, soak hair and dry with a diffuser.

Nice curls every day Smile

BearFoxBear I need to know more about curly hair knickers! How long is your hair? How curly is it? How do you twist it up? As fellow frizz-fighter I need more info!Grin

AuldAlliance · 01/09/2018 18:37

BearFoxBear, I need to know more about the hair pants, too, please!!

Bugjune · 01/09/2018 18:44

It's very pretty on you.

BearFoxBear · 03/09/2018 21:16

Ha ha I dropped the hair pants bomb then disappeared, sorry Grin

Basically the pants are a silky thong that I bought in the wrong size, they're pretty big and stretchy, so are great for twisting my hair up in! My hair is fairly long, about 3/4 inches past my collarbone. I just double tue pants over a couple of times, then start to put my hair into a ponytail with it, wrapping it round and round until its a twisted bun. Does that make sense?!

I put the twist up high to get loads of curls and volume, and down low if I want my hair to be straight with big loose curls at the bottom.

I should do a YouTube video GrinGrin

Almondio · 04/09/2018 21:23

BearFoxBear Grinat hair pants bomb! I think we need pics...had imagined massive Bridget pants, a thong is madness, but very clever!

Hazardswan · 05/09/2018 00:06

bear another saying pics please!
