White marks appeared on leather jacket - Anyone else with experience of this?

My leather jacket has chalky white marks on it which have appeared out of nowhere within the last few months (see attached photo).

There's no damp where it was stored, been no redecorating done with white paint etc.

Can anyone advise how this might have happened and even better, how to get rid of them?

Thank you.

It's called spew - fatty oils in the leather crystallising in the air. You can check it's that by using a hairdryer on it as it should go away in the warm then come back again when it cools.

You can buy leather spew remover but I wouldn't be able to recommend a particular one. Otherwise as a temporary solution some leather shoe cream should get rid of it.

Thank you very much hammeringinmyhead. Have not heard of that before! I'll take your advice and test with the hairdryer first.

I'm a footwear buyer but I hadn't heard of it before I did this job either! Grin
