Highlights to all over colour???

Can anyone help? I have highlights to make me blonder as naturally I am a mousy brown. But I hate getting highlights, it takes ages and is expensive. I have short hair and hate the back of my hair looks black compared to the top- I have a half head of highlights and they don't do the back as its so short.

I have left it 10 weeks since my last colour and have major roots. I am also badly in need of a good cut.

Can I go straight for an all over blonde colour or do I need to grow out my highlights first? Is all over colour, quicker, cheaper and easier?

I pay £90 every 8 weeks to have my hair done and whilst I love the colour and cut its just too pricey. Does this sound like a workable plan or do I need to suck.it up? Tia

I started with highlights, but ended up all blonde when the hairdresser put too many in, after that i went all blonde, and ended up doing my own, it might be easier and cheaper going all blonde

I went from highlights to an all over colour and it was the best thing I have ever done. Much better for your hair. The appointment when I changed over though took hours because he had to put something on to take the highlights out and then put the new colour on. It was worth it though. A warning though - I went with a similar colour to my highlights and ended up looking too blonde, so it took a while to tone it down

Thanks for the replies. I will pop into my hair dressers and have a chat with them.

My hairdresser told me it is cheaper to have all over colour and takes less time but you have to go more frequently as roots look bad much quicker.

I have fairly short hair so it needs cutting every 4-6 weeks really so I would be happy to get my roots done then if its a quick process. Does anyone know the difference in price?
