Hair straighteners - are the cheaper ones worth it?

Hi, I dropped my GhDs some time ago and they haven't been working since. I need to replace them, but I am not sure I want to pay full price!

I've had a look in Amazon and was surprised to see other brands with fantastic reviews and a much cheaper price (around £25-£30). Are they worth it? Many reviewers say they compare positively with GhDs, or are at least as good. What do you think?

I have a Remington set that are really good! I have thick frizzy hair as well.

I highly recommend these straighteners. The reviews on Amazon (312-5*) are all correct!

I have both GHDs (£100) and Babyliss hairstraighteners (£25 on offer)

The Babyliss ones are just as good in terms of function but I don't use them anywhere near as much as the GHDs which are still going strong after 7 years.

Another vote for Remington - bought in desperation when my ghd's broke!

NigellaWannabe1 · 29/08/2018 14:06

Thanks! I looked at the Kipozi reviews but they sounded too good to be true. Do they leave your hair glossy, or straight but dry?

I used to have some Remington's that still left a bit of frizz in my hair. AnneWidecombe, which model do you have?

I agree these kipozi ones from amazon are amazing value and work as good as my old ghd ones which where well expensive when I bought amzn.to/2PO5EEz

TheGoddessFrigg · 29/08/2018 14:14

No. My Remington ones basically frizzled my hair and didn't even straighten it properly.

Cloud 9 or GHDS are worth every single penny.

Palmer1983 · 29/08/2018 14:22

Maybe but the price difference is still loads Shock amzn.to/2BYs3Mv

NigellaWannabe1 · 29/08/2018 14:30

Yes, I can see they are a lot cheaper, but I really want a pair that leaves my hair glossy rather than dry.

If need be, I might be better off buying GhDs online, or even trying to repair my own pair (are they even repairable?).

I have the Kipozi ones too and love them. My hair is shiny after using them

Northernlass99 · 29/08/2018 18:09

Look on eBay and there are people who repair ghd’s.

stressedoutpa · 29/08/2018 18:16

Babyliss

Brilliant reviews when I bought them in 2009 and still going strong. I wouldn't be sucked into the GHD marketing hype personally.

NigellaWannabe1 · 30/08/2018 12:45

Thanks for your recommendations! I might try and get my GhDs repaired .

Do you still agree with this?

Krissylouise · 10/11/2023 15:33

Does anyone still use Kipozi and still think they are good?
