In my 50s and just bought DMs have I lost the plot?

Have just bought these in burgundy for the winter to wear with jeans at weekend etc and would appreciate opinions. Are they boring and straying into frumpy territory or am I look like I am trying to hard to relive DM student in a midlife crisis sort of way?

To add context I’m 5’8” and a size 20 but sort of in proportion.

They are great boots! I'm biased because I have the same pair. I'm 34 and I think they are timeless, but a bit edgy. I don't think anyone is too old for docs. I wear mine with skinnies usually but have also worn them with plain jersey dresses for work, and tea dresses and biker jackets at the weekend.
Following with interest for new outfit ideas for this winter!

Jojoanna · 29/08/2018 22:07

I have similar in brown, I never thought about my age when I bought them

Ellapaella · 29/08/2018 22:27

I love DM's and am covering a pair of cherry red ones for the winter. Love them OP.

EraOfTheGrey · 29/08/2018 22:56

I'm 48 and have these exact boots. I also have them in the tan but don't really wear those ones, might dye them black. I wear them with skinny jeans, tapered trousers, ankle length wide legged trousers, leggings and dresses.

I have also grown out my hair dye and am now 100% grey. I say wear your grey hair and lovely DM boots with pride.

Late forties and have a growing collection of DM's - including some red patent boots that go with much more than you'd think.

Sarcelle · 30/08/2018 06:35

I was in the Brighton DM shop with DH who was trying on a pair last year and a woman who I judged to be in her 70s tried on and bought a sparkly boot pair. The whole shop was egging her on. I was totally jealous!

Poppiesway1 · 30/08/2018 06:53

Ive just brought myself a pair of black glittery DM’s. I love them and can’t sit for this warmth to be gone so I can wear them. I’m also eyeing up the cherry red pair too.
I wear DM shoes for work also (I’m 41)

They last forever, I’m literally still wearing a pair I brought when I was 16!! They last so well

oohyoudevilyou · 30/08/2018 07:53

Outrageous! A plus-sized 50-something woman in DM's!! Get yourself down to Hotter and buy some nice beige lace-ups, then off to Bonmarche for some sensible navy polyester slacks...Jesus Christ woman - what were you thinking?! Hmm

Monty27 · 30/08/2018 07:59

I wear DMS. I am older than you.
Tip in if they are giving you gip, whilst wearing them point a hairdryer at them to soften them into your feet.
I spent two years trying to wear mine in before I heard that.
They are about 6 years old now and I can wear them all day Smile

Undercoverbanana · 30/08/2018 08:09

DMs are the best. I’m 50. I wear mine all the time in winter with black tights and mini shift dresses. So comfy.

This expectation that 50+ women should all be in Next drives me batty.

MikeUniformMike · 31/08/2018 23:27

Next? I thought that was for youngsters.
I want DM Flora boots now or Emmeline, or both. Off to ebay to look for some...

shereebobbins · 31/08/2018 23:42

Hell no! I'm soon to be 55 and have four pairs with my fifth pair arriving tomorrow. My newest ones are stilletto boots. I'm ecstatic.
I'll try and post a link.

Hopefully that works.

Dhalandchips · 31/08/2018 23:43

Can't see what you've bought but docs rock. Carry on Wink

thedevilinablackdress · 01/09/2018 09:01

DMs are EXACTLY the right footwear for a new f*ck it approach!

yummyeclair · 01/09/2018 09:08

I am 49 and have a pair which I wear frequently and get compliments !

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/09/2018 09:18

I've got red patent boots. IT will soon be cold enough to wear them! And I've been looking at dm shoes all morning whilst humming "Dr Marten', Dr marten's, Dr Marten's BOOTS!"

Loyaultemelie · 01/09/2018 09:21

I'm trying to convince dh he wants to buy me vegan dms for Christmas, he always asks what I want then gives me a ConfusedThose are gorgeous, enjoy them!

UtterlyBatty · 01/09/2018 09:27

The balm they sell is really great for softening them. I was expecting a long breaking in period, but my 'boots for life' were comfortable right from the off. Not one blister!

I just went to get a link to the 'for life' boots, and they've stopped doing them! Shock Shock

AwkwardSquad · 01/09/2018 09:37

I’m in my 50s and own a most excellent pair of 18-hole DMs. They’re my winter boots. I have to wear several pairs of socks with them because of my ridiculous bony feet, but I still love them.

I did feel a bit self-conscious in them at first, but the only way to work through it is to put them on and get out there. You will rock in yours, I’m sure.

MsGadjetty · 17/11/2019 11:54

I'm 64 and have just bought 2 pairs of Docs in the sales. Used to have a pair many years ago and am so happy to have Docs again. Statement boots for me and I agree, there's no "age limit" to wearing Docs. Do your own thing! :)

MoltonSilver · 17/11/2019 12:04

I have those same boots. Best buy ever.

BennyTheBall · 17/11/2019 12:15

I love them.

I have lace-up DMs and I bloody live in them. I love wearing them with midi length dresses.
