Nail hardener

Could anyone recommend a nail hardener please?
Over the last few years I find my nails are ripping, even when I put my jeans on, for example!
By contrast i need to use a nail softener before I can cut my toenails these days. I'm 53

I use Sally Hansen hard as nails nail hardener. Does a good job and it's about £4.99 from boots
