Winter 2018/2019 -- death of the skinny with big sweater. What the hell do we wear for tops

So going off another thread..it looks like the reign of "skinny jeans/jeggings with large oversized top" is out.

Fall/winter 2018 seems to have much baggier roomier jeans..high waist of course. mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, drop crotch, carpenter, oversized straight leg veering into flares/and the silhouette seems to be either short/cropped and boxy or long and relaxed and slouchy. LOTS of cuffs on pant legs.
What about tops though? What's the silhouette supposed to be then? In the noighties it was big bell bottoms skimpy tops and the opposite was true in the 2010s but now it almost looks like shorter boxier crops, and high waist boxy jeans?
Seems kinda shapeless. Looking through google gives me nothing but crazy runway looks.
Especially with winter coming on, what's the over all look?

I wear high waisted jeans from the 40s and 50s (am an hourglass so they actually fit me at the waist and I like the landgirl feeling they give me!).

I usually tie a shirt at the waist or tuck in :)

I was a teen of the noughties so vividly remember dragging around my bell bottoms and jnco jeans in the slush grin no thanks!

Yep - being damp up to the knees and my mother despairing at me.

I quite like the look of paper bag trousers, but I need to try someone and make an assessment.

These seems to be the silhouettes I'm seeing..

You know you are officially old when trends you wore in your teens and twenties come back round again. I remember wearing a red rose printed bodysuit from Topshop which had an underwired top. I wore it with dark green short culottes and block heeled shoes.

Top wise I'm seeing lots of tight thin jumpers, and jumpers described as "designed to be tucked in to skirts/trousers", so in practice, it'll be that for people who don't want a tummy gap.

Loose on bottom half and tight on the top half, tucked in to waistband rather than out.

It'll feel exposing to have stuff tight round your waist, but I remember the angst about thighs in tight trousers highlighting bad areas, we'll just get used to a different area being the one on show...

TBH I normally love shopping in September but this year I'm glad I'm pregnant til November and can sit this one out a bit - I'll be sticking to maternity skinnies and maternity tops which are long anyway. With trainers and flat ankle boots.

I think layering will continue to work for me. If tops get shorter and boxier then I will sling a slouchy cardi or a checked shirt with rolled sleeves on top. And I am not giving up my Dr Martens just yet!

I love boyfriend jeans but they're such a summer thing to me. All of mine are light wash.

I still have a couple of favourite bodies from the 90s. A woman at the gym I went to had an overlocking machine and she would convert all our bodies to thong style for about £2 a time. I had a lovely trim torso than and wore them all the time and never got thrush. Sadly now I am bulkier in that are so they wouldnt look as nice.

The bulgy torso is a downside of being middle aged but one of the upsides is no longer being as driven by fashion trends. I will continue to wear my skinnies and forgiving tops and observe how the catwalk looks get adapted to the real world before making any new purchases. I have also just bought some very nice long sleeved tee shirts to transition my MN favourite harem jump suits from summer to autumn.
