Removing gel nail polish

How? Just how? I have buffed off the top coat and wrapped my nails in cotton wool soaked in acetone and covered with foil, I have left it on for 10 minutes/20 minutes/half an hour and the stuff still remains. I live miles from a nail bar and I just wanted the stuff gone, how the hell do I do it other than nuking it off with a flame thrower?

some gel won't soak off, so you will have to keep filing!

MissLadyM · 23/08/2018 16:33

It's vile stuff! Had them done once, never again!

Bezm · 23/08/2018 16:35

Try soaking them in hot nail polish remover. I must admit, I tend to peel mine off 😳

WilburIsSomePig · 23/08/2018 17:05

Are you using an orange stick to 'scrape' the polish off after you've soaked in the foils?

SleepyMcEdie · 23/08/2018 17:06

Regular gel should have softened enough after 20 minutes in acetone that you can scrape it off your nail.

I bought some little packets from ebay which work well

There is some gels used that have to be filed off. No amount of soaking is gonna do it. I filed mine right and reapplied nail varnish over the top to hide the awful state. After a few rounds of that, I eventually got my nails back.

Hot water in a bowl, bowl of acetone inside that and soak. The cotton wool/foil never works for me. File every 15 mins or so. I don’t usually have just gels as they never last more than a couple of days but this had worked for me in the past, or I’ve peeled them.

I soak them. I often get glitter gels and they take forever 40 mins plus to remove if wrapped. Soaking works much faster for me. Make sure to wash your hands well and plenty of cuticle oil afterwards and handcream.

You need to scrape the softened gel, not rub off like normal polish
