Is this a 'classic' bag

Price opinions aside, do you think this bag is a classic shape or will I hate it by next year??

No. Not classic in shape

KnockMeDown · 23/08/2018 12:27

I think it's classic! But that may be because I think it's gorgeous.

So not much help, sorry Grin

darlingchops · 23/08/2018 12:28

KnockMeDown that's my problem too!!

Not classic, more quirky so it has a timeless quality. To me it has an equestrian look. It’s nice but you would have to have the budget and the storage space to justify buying something so unusual it would probably only get very occasional use.

darlingchops · 23/08/2018 12:33

Loonoon Its for everyday use, I like a big ole bag.

That is AMAZING.

FabulousTomatoes · 23/08/2018 12:58

Lovely 😍

I would like something that will last and still look good in a couple of years. It's to replace a LV Neverfall which I bought in 2016 and now hate how tacky it looks! Blush

First one is much better. If you are going to spend that amount, buy the beautiful rather than boring, functional looking one.

HollowTalk · 23/08/2018 13:08

I agree - buy the first; it's beautiful.

JeSuisPrest · 23/08/2018 13:16

I like it, but I don't think it would stay looking good for very long. The holes into which the stud goes to adjust the handle length are not reinforced in any way by metal work or extra stitching (though it looks like the exposed leather has been sealed with a rubber compound).

Given the capacity of the bag (which appears huge), the weight potentially carried will mean the holes will stretch and the stud will continually fall out of place (meaning you have to use a different hole until you have no holes left).

They should have used the same metal work on the lock "hole" as the handle holes.

I like them both but the first one is my favourite. If only I had the money!!

PinguDance · 23/08/2018 13:21

I also prefer the first - second one is classic in the sense of boring and nondescript.

darlingchops · 23/08/2018 13:50

JeSuisP that is one of the things I was wondering about, I wanted something that will look clean for a few years. I haven't seen it in person, so I might go do that first.

I think it's beautiful, no idea if it's a classic style but if I could afford it I'd definitely go for it!

Strawbe · 23/08/2018 15:45

The first one is beautiful, i think it's timeless and that this style will become classic. I love my Bayswater, but there are lots of them around now... go for the first one!

emma6776 · 23/08/2018 20:04

I’m not keen on that or the Bayswater but I love the Selby bags. My friend got one for her 30th (nearly 10 yrs ago) & it’s ages beautifully, as has she.

Viviene · 23/08/2018 20:08

Bayswater is classic in a boring, safe sense. The first one is the bag you wear for years and years, unless PP is right about the stretching if the holes.

Clionba · 23/08/2018 20:16

Not keen on the Bayswater. The first one is nice, but not classic.

MenaMecca · 23/08/2018 21:21

Hobo bags have been around forever. And that is one nice hobo bag.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 23/08/2018 21:36

Love it in the oxblood.

Cantthinkofnameargh · 24/08/2018 00:25

I don't think it's a classic bag because of the design and ring pull closure.
