Is this worth it? They all look like franchisee things so can it be hit and miss? Would anyone recommend it please?

i had mine done quite a few years ago and i have found it very useful. i tend to only buy things that are the correct colour, with the exception of black which i buy anyway.

i did it as a group session at the local adult education college so it was relatively cheap.

StealthNinjaMum · 23/08/2018 11:10

I did and it was expensive but worth it. I am much better at buying things that suit me and putting different outfits together. I was worried that it would be restrictive to only buy things in my season (I'm autumn) but actually I quite like being able to walk through a department store in a few minutes picking up things that suit me and instantly dismissing things I might've dithered over.

Lonegirl · 23/08/2018 11:14

Thank you. What company did you use?

It was House of Colour. I can't remember why I chose them, I think some people on my local Facebook page recommended them.

The woman did sell me some makeup and tried to persuade me to buy other stuff but actually I've always bought autumn colours makeup even before I had my colours done.

Do they give advice on hair colour? I went from blonde to darkish brown about 13 years ago and quite fancy a change!

Yes she did give advice on hair colour but I can't remember what she said (I only really colour to get rid of grey). She got my colour palette by holding materials to my skin and it's the pigment in your skin that determines your colours rather than your hair colour or eye colour. I was hoping to be a winter based on my eyes and hair colour but they weren't relevant.

I had it done after debating over it forever. I walked out feeling positive (and surprised at my colours). Went away and got a few items that were my best colours and no one commented on them other than to say they liked me more in the older colours I wore! I wonder if if was the lighting in the room. I’m not sure but I’m a bit disappointed to be honest.

I had mine done by a personal shopper at my local shopping centre. It was included in the shopping package. The personal shopper is a House of Colour consultant as well as a personal shopper. I found it really useful.

There are also some online stylists who do it based on photos.

autumnpie · 23/08/2018 14:55

Hi. I had my colours done by a House of Colour consultant last year. I found it really useful and as others have posted, it makes my shopping much faster as I reject most of the colours of each shop. (Black was ruled out for me as I am an autumn).

I could really see the difference it made to wear colours that suited me. I also really enjoyed the session.

Lonegirl · 23/08/2018 20:23

I only know of one colleague that had hers done and she always looks amazing. It was a long time ago though and the consultant she went to isn’t there any more. Thank you everyone.

I had mine done a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. I went with a friend for a private session and our consultant was really nice. I'm a winter which I thought I might have been and my friend was a summer.

SpeckledyHen · 23/08/2018 21:09

I had it done 25 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did to save money ! A life time of never getting it wrong . A no- brainier in my view .
I had it done by House of Colour after seeing a group session at a health farm ( spa ) . I was amazed watching the effect on a group of strangers that I simply had to have it done and never regretted it .

Lonegirl · 23/08/2018 21:35

Ok, looks like House of Colour. Will be booking ASAP!

You could drape on here and seek views.

autumnpie · 23/08/2018 22:12

I hope you really enjoy it and find it useful if you do go for a consultation.

Lonegirl · 23/08/2018 23:17

Paul I’m not that brave! House of colour only seems to do organised classes (when I’m at work) is Colour Me Beautiful any good please?

OP posts:
whattimeislove · 23/08/2018 23:50

I did colour me beautiful. It was ok. Although I'm a bit awkward and vary between two types (I think it was warm and deep autumn). I think it's all down to getting recommendations for decent people rather than the brand.

BinkyandBunty · 23/08/2018 23:58

There's a lot of information on the net if you want to have a go at DIY for free first. E.g. a good start is figuring out whether you're cool or warm toned which there are a few simple tests for that you could do at home or with a friend.

I think when you're young and fresh looking you can get away with most things but as I've hit middle age I've found the colours I wear have an enormous effect on how good or bad I look and I'm gradually switching my wardrobe to only the right colours for me.

GinaCarbonara · 24/08/2018 21:44

House of colour does do private classes, is there a consultant near you that's offering them?

mimiasovitch · 24/08/2018 22:24

The reason I had mine done was because I was never quite comfortable with my hair colour. Turned out it was because I always went for warm tones, and I'm a winter. I've never regretted it, and love how my wardrobe coordinates. I did house of colour btw.

Lonegirl · 25/08/2018 00:32

The consultants near me only do classes. I may look further afield.

House of colour for me too. I’m a summer. Was very happy with my consultation and could see my face light up against certain colours. Once you’ve seen how much better you look in your colours you’ll be drawn to them in shops. I never get anything not on my palette because I’ve seen how it does nothing for me!

TeaByTheSeaside · 28/08/2018 22:34

How much did it cost please?

MadMaryBoddington · 28/08/2018 22:46

I went to a group thing where the consultant did a shortened version of a session on several of the participants. But when she got to me she frowned and said “Oh you’re quite complicated” and refused to do me. Hmm

hmmwhatatodo · 29/08/2018 01:22

Did you get your money back Mary? I’m not convinced my colours were done properly, disappointed after all the research I put into helping me decide who to give my cash to.
