Dr Martens recommendations, but shoes not boots

I already have some patent black 1640 boots from a few years ago, but find I don't wear them that much as the patent leather is very stiff and uncomfortable even after all this time, and they squeak when I walk!

I was thinking maybe some of their shoes would make a change and will be more comfortable? So I'm looking for recommendations as i will be buying online. I will be wearing them for work which involves a lot of walking, and for general weekend wear.

I like the mono 1461’s (in both black and white). The black ones would definitely be suitable for work. And both pairs really suit current fashion trends (eg general high street style)

I have these Polley shoes. They're one of my favourite pairs.
Very hard wearing and comfortable (once you've broken the back in...ouch! )
I'll still be wearing these in 5 years time.

My favourite DM shoes are my Joyce Heart brogues - I have them in black with leopard skin hearts and white with red hearts. And they've been pretty comfortable from the get go!

God Dr Martens are so expensive aren’t they? Oweeeeee

Bourgainvillia · 22/08/2018 18:08

They are now because they are fashionable once again lol

SoupMode · 22/08/2018 18:17

I like the Polley ones but I imagine they look better with dresses rather than trousers? Brogues might be better for me as I wear trousers and jeans a lot.
I love the style of the Joyce ones but I'm not sure about the leopard print bit Grin. I've seen some flowery ones online but DD has banned me from getting those as I would be too embarrassing apparently. She says I should stick to black or brown Grin The cherry red ones are rather lovely though.

I have Polleys - wear them with jeans all the time

I love my Henrietta brogues but they’re a previous season. They sometimes come up new or nearly new on eBay though.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 22/08/2018 18:35

I wear the Polleys with everything too. They look really nice with tapered utility type trousers.
I'm now having to stop myself looking on the Dr marten website...

SoupMode · 22/08/2018 18:56

Do you wear socks with the Polleys with trousers? I wasn't sure if I could pull this look off and look vaguely sensible for work?

Sometimes I wear plain black trainer type socks with them. They look quite smart imo. I also go sockless.
I've recently bought some fishnet socks 😂 to wear with them.

meadowmeow · 22/08/2018 19:13

DD's the polleys for school. I wear 1461 original black for work and have a few other colours for non work

Just to caution that DM quality doesn’t seem to be what it used to in my experience.

I have a pair of DM Mary Janes purchased in the early 2000s that are still going, albeit a little worn looking but perfectly wearable whilst the pair of Polly t-bars I got a year or so back started breaking away from the sole about a year after wearing regularly for work. A pair of boots worn less regularly seem ok on the other hand so could be a one off.

I understand that DM have a made in Britain range which is more expensive- but I wonder if the quality is better? For the price you pay you’d want them to last!

TheRattleBag · 23/08/2018 11:24

I have quite a few pairs so I doubt I'll live long enough to wear them all out!
