What to wear to a winter wedding

What can I wear to a winter wedding given I am late 40s - don’t want to look like mutton dressed as lamb but also don’t want to look like a mother of the bride 😬

I like the Roland Mouret dresses but don’t think I can justify paying that much...

Anyone got any ideas?? Am so far out of the loop as to what’s in (saw leopard print are in - save me from that)

I’d go for a dress in a rich colour like plum, dark green or deep blue. And a smart dress coat.

What sort of wedding is it (how formal) and will you need to be standing around in either a draughty church or outside much?

It will all be inside so don’t need coat etc It’s to be quite “dressy”. Would like to be able to wear the outfit again (smart dinners out etc)
