What instead of jeans?

I'm a bit bored of jeans. I have great, shapely legs and a belly like a melted kebab. Have squeezed myself into high-waisted skinny jeans for the past year but they are so uncomfortable and whilst making the most of my legs they are unflattering on my belly.

I am 32 size 12-14. This summer I've been living in denim shorts, Harem pants and paper-bag trousers. What can I wear for autumn/winter if not jeans?

I want to get some nice boots too.

I'm a SAHM so my casual wear is my every-day wear. I can't believe I've already reached that age where jeans just aren't for me.

I live in black leggings with tunic tops and dresses. So comfy. When it’s very cold I switch to wide leg jersey trousers. But it depends on your body shape.

Fatbelliedgirl · 19/08/2018 23:14

Leggings or thick tights. Over knee boots. A short skirt to further show off your legs. A tunic or jumper dress to hide the belly, perhaps magic knickers underneath.

Processedpea · 19/08/2018 23:17

Uniqlo legging trousers are nice not too legginy

Going to get looking for tunic tops. Any recommendations?

I recommend ASDA jeggings. £12.50 a pair. Pull on and much more lightweight and comfortable than jeans. I am travelling by plane later this week and am wearing mine with a long t-shirt. First test for them was a 3 hour car journey and they were really comfortable.

Seeing as you have good legs I would wear skirts and dresses with tights. I wear a lot of tailored trousers, dress them down with a T-Shirt and loafers. It works for me and doesn't look to work wear or too old (I'm 26)

whiskyremorse · 20/08/2018 10:28

Have you looked at Hush ruched jersey skirts? They are great with tights and boots and you can wear a looser top if you want to hide your tummy

Floaty2018 · 23/08/2018 19:26

OP I think I probably have a similar body shape to you, I'm in my late 20s and I live in midi wrap dresses (never in clingy jersey material) and tights. I go for dresses with a tie waist so I can define my waist and detract from the belly. Also, good underwear is life changing!

1wokeuplikethis · 24/08/2018 22:39

Hey Floaty, what is good underwear?

I haven't bought a new pair of pants for about 5 years, they currently sit somewhere south of my overhang and I feel these are NOT good underwear! Do I need a full granny pant/apple catcher brief?

@1wokeuplikethis
Sorry can't link it OP (see above) but try M&S No VPL Microfibre shorts. I find them super flattering. Good luck!

1wokeuplikethis · 29/08/2018 21:43

Thank you floaty! I will definitely get some of those.

Since starting this thread, I have since bought 2 skirts (one courd, one leather) a jumper dress, 2 wrap dresses, a shirt dress, many tights, some biker boots and a leather jacket (not to be worn with the leather skirt, or biker boots!) now I just need it to be autumn!

I am glad I asked as they are already so much more flattering 😊

I got some grey jeans from next recently which are stretchy and very, very comfy and I think look a bit more stylish/different than blue jeans.

Eesha · 29/08/2018 23:31

op, where is your new stuff from? sounds ideal for me as think we are in the same boat!

unbalancedBella · 30/08/2018 05:40

If you have great legs and have been in shorts all summer add opaque tights under the shorts for cooler weather. It's a look that may flatter you.

1wokeuplikethis · 30/08/2018 10:09

Ooh hadn't thought of shorts under tights 🤔

I bought most of it from primark, some from silkfred and jacket/boots off asos.
Going to head to m&s for some big pants. I'm 32 and think this may be the beginning of the rest of my life shopping for pants in m&s! In fairness, I haven't bought any new pants since 2014, they're all saggy. And no new bras since then either and they are driving me mad; completely the wrong size and uncomfortable after breastfeeding two kids and ending up with tubular knee-danglers.

Big pants that fit properly are a lifesaver and actually make things like jeans feel much more comfy. I've put on so much weight on my belly suddenly (peri-menopausal and got a mirena coil) and it's the saggy pants sitting under the belly that drive me nuts. Add decent pants to your pile and you'll feel so much better! They smooth things out too.

DelphiniumBlue · 30/08/2018 21:19

I found M&S full briefs come up a little too high for trousers/jeans, but the high waisted brazilians are perfect. And less VPL.
