Superga issues

I love my white supergas but after just a season of wearing they've become so uncomfortable. That's because the ankle bit has worn away exposing the rubber which rubs raw on my feet. The only way I can wear them is with 2 pairs of socks! Any one else have this issue. It's happened to me with an adopted pair of converses in the past. Why do they have to make them out of this rubber rather than just canvas or leather. Grrr.

What alternatives might I like?

I have some Supergas which have a rough bit just to the side of the instep and they have always rubbed. it's not the rubber, it's the canvas on mine. First time I wore them I ended up with a bleeding foot and thank goodness I was only on a short trip to the supermarket.
I now always have to wear trainer socks with them which kind of takes away the appeal a bit.
