Would you buy a mens jacket for yourself??

I’ve been desperately searching for a grey denim jacket. All the styles aimed at women are too fitted, I like distressed/ oversized fit.

I have found one I really like on Asos but it’s in the men’s section Confused
I think I know the answer already...but would you buy it for yourself anyway??

Yes, for a denim jacket, but I like that massively baggy look for them.

Forgot to add, if you plan on ever doing it up, it won't have room for your boobs, and may not have much bum room. If that bothers you.

I would and I do. I wore my husband's denim jacket through the 90s/noughties and I have a particular thing for men's tailored jackets and coats. I prefer the shape and they're less fussy than women's and sometimes in better fabrics. I normally get the sleeve and shoulders altered (although some seamstresses / tailors will only make minimal alterations to shoulders so you may have to hunt around).

Just be warned that once you get used to all the pockets you can never go back.

I'd have no hesitation in buying anything that fits from the mens section.

MerryDeath · 17/08/2018 10:57

if it fitted as i wanted to i would of course why on earth would i matter.

As someone who is long of arm and long of leg, and wide of shoulder, I often buy mens jackets coats and jumpers. They all seem to be better made, higher quality fabric - and sometimes cheaper than womens fashion items. I too was going to mention all those handy pockets - no wonder men don't need handbags.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 17/08/2018 11:28

I might if it looked good...
at the moment I am obsessed with men's shirts - the fabrics are such high quality compared to women's shirts. In the last month, in charity shops, I have found shirts by Paul Smith, Jeff Banks, and Savile row tailoring. Sooo much nicer than 'women's' shirts....
So if you like it, go for it.

I buy men's jackets, I have broad shoulders and modest boobs so they usually fit me fine. Not usually tailored stuff, but outdoor and sporty stuff, I'm not a big fan of purple, pink or turqouise which dominate the women's section in outdoor shops, I like autumnal colours so head for the men's racks.
I used to wear DHs denim jackets in the 80s!

My favourite coat is a Harris tweed of my dad’s from around 1960. I rescued it from his charity bag, had the lining replaced as the original silk had rotted into thread and some minor alterations. I love it. So yes, I would!

Tessellated · 17/08/2018 13:10

yes, I often buy mens stuff, especially from ASOS as the quality is far nicer!

Thanks for all your replies! I have small boobs so no worry about them being squished! I’m 5”8 size 8 not curvy at all so thinking I may go ahead with it! Thanks all!!
