Highlights for long hair without damage

Hi all!

I'd be really grateful for any advice on how to lighten my hair without damaging it.

My hair is thick and my natural colour which is dark blonde/ light brown, and nearly down to my waist almost. I'd really like to lighten it to a brighter blonde shade. I'm thinking maybe similar to Eva or Sarah on Corrie (which I'm currently watching!) for reference.

Please, any advice on what to ask for at the hairdressers to do this with as little damage as possible? I've had it all sorts of shades of blonde before from platinum white to ash and it seems to damage and dry it quite badly and stop it growing much further than my shoulders. I have used a lot of home dyes though which probably don't help.

Also is there any type of highlights that will make regrowth less obvious?

Thanks in advance!
