Help me create a capsule wardrobe

I hate all my clothes. I have no style and generally dress to be comfortable. I'm a size 18 and feel so frumpy. I'm not good at shopping and tend to go once a year to M&S and stock up.
I would love to throw it all out and start again. I have some spare money and I'm ready.
Does anyone have any suggestions. What items are essential? I'd be very grateful for any help.

Pinterest is good.
As is a John Lewis or similar personal shopper.

It depends whether you want a work wardrobe, casual or both.

Basics in 3 or 4 neutral colours.
If you prefer separates then your separates should co-ordinate that multiple tops go with multiple trousers or skirts.
After that you can add colour with cardigans, shoes and accessories.
Then you build from there.

You definitely need one good coat and one warm one.
A waterproof jacket.
At least one pair of good winter boots.
Some smart shoes.
An occasion outfit.

What's your colouring and what colours suit you? Do you prefer dresses/jumpsuits or skirts/trousers and tops?
Workwear or casual?
What shops if any do you like?

Definitely pintrest!

I also love lots of blogs. Putting me together is one of my favourites for capsules. There's also another one I really like but can't remember the name of, classy and trendy or something like that!

Pick 4 colours, mine are navy, olive green, maroon and grey, plus black and white. Now get rid of anything else in your wardrobe. Then see what's left. You need five tops, five bottoms, three junpers/cardigans and a coat. This is to start. Plus jeans for the weekend. And a couple of dresses. One lbd and the other vibrant. Everything matches so you have multiple outfit choices. And that's it. Works a treat. Spend any extra cash on jewelry.

I love doing this. You can make sure all your clothes work together by doing outfit sudoku (see picture)

My main colours are navy, white, deep red with the occasional bit of khaki, purple, black & light blue - this is for clothes, shoes, accessories.
