So my 40th is oct. Hubby and myself are going to whittlebury hall then Murrys restaurant. I've not been but I'm told its quite dressy. Literally have no idea what to wear. I'm 5ft 6 size 12. Any ideas??

Wear whatever you're comfortable in and makes you feel good. It isn't that dressy, more smart-casual - last time I was there there were women in jeans and nice top type outfits as well as dresses. Enjoy!

I'm obviously at another end of the country as none of the destinations ring any bells, but may I suggest that you use the occasion to find something you feel wonderful in, and will happily wear again for several years. I know that dress up clothes never pull their weight in cost per wear terms, but they matter in the family photographs everyone looks back on, so something that's distinctive and memorable, without being so distinctive and memorable no one can forget it, might be worth it. As I have the wooden spoon to talk, I'd suggest you want something that isn't a dark colour; obviously you will choose it to flatter your body shape, and you should give thought to whether there will be music and dancing.

I'd wear a nice dress- not too formal but something you feel good in. You sound as if you have a good figure so anything will look good on you. As it will be autumn then a sleeve will be more comfortable. How about something like this ? www.coast-stores.com/p/rosie-shirt-dress/2041467
