A lot of my tops are coming out with little holes

About 2 or 3 years ago, I noticed in some of my tops/tshirts, under the arms, tiny little holes came about. They were every day wear tops and were quite old at that stage. Considering the location of the holes, I hung onto the tops until the holes became bigger and came to an end.

Recently, a lot of my tshirts are comt out in similar type of holes. This time, they are not old tshirts, many of them are 2/3 months old. The holes are in a new place too - in and around my belly button. I have 5 tops that I've noticed these little holes in, so far.

Has anyone else experienced similar holes in their clothes? Any idea what may be causing them?

I use to get these all the time so when I'm stood cooking and leaning against the work surface I always tuck my top in so it doesn't rub.

I did read once about the newer washing machines having a larger drum which makes clothes rub against the outer drum/side/whatever the technical term is as they get sucked through the tiny holes.

It's not moths or washing machines because then the holes wouldn't be in the same place every time. In my case I think it's worktops. I did buy wee soft covers for my jeans button after another thread on here, but they ping off when I unbutton my jeans, so can't recommend them I'm afraid.

I think its poor quality - have had similar on thin cotton t-shirts from White Stuff (another mentioned same problem) and fat Face. Fat face got one wear and wash out of it then hole appeared. Had similar in the past with H+M.

I get this, aleaysxatound the belly button. I’m not convinced it’s just cheap fabric - it’s jidt as likely to happen to a Whistles top as it a cheeky from M&S, I find. I’ve also googled extensively and am going with the worktop theory...moths and the washing machine wouldn’t only cause holes in one place. And I eventually realised that for me it started 4/5 years ago which coincided with getting a granite worktop. I try to make a point of wearing an apron more, but then I hang around making coffee etc...

I’m moving later in the year and probably won’t go with granite when we do the kitchen. So I’ll report back in about 18 months...!

It is kitchen countertops - www.holebuttoncover.com works

I get these but sometimes on the chest area too. Only ever on stretchy t-shirt type matetial. I don't think it's counter tops. I think it's the washing machine. I make sure I do up my bras before washing them and turn anything with rough bits, decorations etc inside out and it has helped.

It isn’t moths. They don’t eat cotton, and the holes wouldn’t be in the same place. DH gets this in all his t shirts and I assume it is wear from zips, belts, buttons etc.

I blame seat belts

TheWizardofWas · 15/08/2018 16:09

Was going list same question. Just noticed a bunch of holes in my t shirt at belly button. I think belts, buttons
