Help! Premature menopause and face drooped.

Hi everyone,

I never thought I'd be writing this post. I was beyond devastated to know that I started the menopause early at about 40. Subsequent issues have been vile, but I won't bore you with the details.

The point of this thread is that it seems like my face has slipped downwards. I don't recognise myself.

Anybody in the same position? What do I do? I'm considering Botox or fillers or quite frankly anything to make this seem ok.

Menopause is not for the faint-hearted...but some people sail through it. I didn't. Mine started at 48, and for a year I had cracked and bleeding feet, eczema, mood swings and depression, sleepless nights and weight gain. HRT didn't suit, so I went down the natural therapy route. After a year everything settled down. It's a huge deal for the body to cope with, which is why it used to be called 'the change'. I'm sure you know all this! Keep smiling, things will get better. Check out the web, there's lots of information and support out there. Good luck!

I'm 47 and going through the perimenopause, it's hideous. The mood swings, weight gain and the near constant feeling of being drained is hard work but the thing I hate most is the effect it's having on the face.
Like you op, my skin seems to droop downwards and it ages me. I've always had greasy type skin, I don't have any wrinkles and thought I'd be fine as I aged. I've decided it's not wrinkles that age a person it's jowls and droopy skin.
I've started to do some targeted facial exercises I found on YouTube but I don't think they're doing much.
It's awful, I'm a size 10, slim-ish and although I could do with toning up I'm not overweight but I've developed a double chin Sad

I had an early menopause. Symptoms started at 29 but I didn't finally stop my periods until 36. I'm now 44.

I also noticed my face age and also started carrying weight around my middle. Delightful Confused

On my GP's advice I am on the contraceptive pill as a form of HRT. It's the strongest form they could give me.

Obviously not everyone can take it (family history, breast cancer etc) but from what I've read the benefits outweigh the risks if you go through menopause under 40. In particular it can prevent osteoporosis which is a risk if you have an extra decade without enough oestrogen.

I wouldn't say it's totally sorted my face out but my skin is better and my hair is definitely better. My body shape is back to how it was (still slightly overweight but on my hips not my waist) plus it got rid of my night sweats, anxiety and tiredness.

It's personal choice and depends on other factors but every time I get my blood pressure checked and they mutter about me being a bit old for the pill I give them my best menopausal threatening glare and they renew my prescription. Grin
