How much would you pay for a synthetic bag?

Browsing for a new bag - nothing special, just an everyday bag which is a reasonable size for all my crap.

Some of the prices of synthetic are ridiculous!

Bit of a “how long is a piece of string” question that isn’t it?

I buy Matt & Nat bags. They are expensive for synthetic but are hardwearing and don't look synthetic.

Not really Shirley, most of us have a budget. I'm asking how much you would pay for a synthetic bag, I would expect varied answers because we'll all have different budgets IYSWIM?

Will check them out choppolata I want something that looks half decent and not too 'plastic'.

I would only buy a non-leather bag as an overflow tote, or a beach bag - so £20 max.

I've been really shocked at the price of some synthetic bags - would never pay over £50 for faux leather! I would always buy leather for my main handbag if I can afford it but also love Nicky James laminated cotton bags - gorgeous prints and really hard wearing.

This is the one which caught my eye, but even in the sale it's £80 and it's synthetic with a polyester lining. Would have cost buttons to make.

You see, I love Mia tui bags, which are vegan leather (or synthetic!). Mine have lasted well (better made than some of my leather ones).

I'm consciously making the move away from leather as much as I can though, so go looking for decent quality.

pontiouspilates · 13/08/2018 19:41

Another vote for Mia Tui bags. Really well designed and hard wearing.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 13/08/2018 19:41

I think it depends on the quality of the bag.

Stella Mccartney bags are not real leather but I would pay more for one of those than a faux leather bag from a cheaper brand, as my impression is that there is a quality difference.

Looking at manmade fibres/materials generally, I am happy to pay for Longchamp bags in nylon, but I wouldn’t pay much for a nylon bag from any other brand.

Leather bags are nice, but they may not be suitable for all situations - they are usually quite heavy compared to faux leather bags, they can be delicate, especially to rain and they may scratch more easily than a faux leather equivalent, but I would then argue that a worn leather bag ages better than a worn faux leather bag.

It's not so much that I want a leather bag over synthetic really, I'm just surprised at how expensive some of them are. I have a couple of lovely of synthetic bags which have worn pretty well, but were around the £30 mark. I think I may be very out of touch. Grin

I see your point OP as I used to feel exactly the same, then i realised that all the cheap high street shops even sell real leather shoes and bags sometimes, e.g. primark, new look, matalan. leather doesnt suggest quality and synthetic doesnt necessarily suggest lower quality, but I have thought the same as you before.

I dont buy leather anymore and only seem to fall in love with stella mccartney vegan bags unfortunately! Have bought a couple for 300ish in the sale

I have a huge Spanish-made tote (bought in TKMAxx clearance aisle several years ago, so no pics to google) made in the style of the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato bags. It cost £25 and is really well made (but plasticised cotton weave) and there is a queue of friends who'd like one too. I think you have to be there, feeling lucky and decide right away to buy it. Happy hunting!
