Chunky trainers middle age impulse buy - votes? Yay or nay?

I impulse bought these bargains last night and they are ready to collect in John Lewis
What can I wear with them in autumn winter?
If its just jeans that's fine, but what colour tops and jacket?
(not a white person in winter!)
Or am I too old (52)to not look slightly ludicrous?

I'm afraid I'm really not a fan, sorry!!

PUPupTheJam · 13/08/2018 11:58

Very Kanye West/teen

Rollerbird · 13/08/2018 12:18

I feared so. They look so comfy though!!!

They're shoes. You like them? Then wear them. Wear them with whatever you like.

Surely by 52 you've learned that other people's opinions on what you feel good in don't really matter!

Gruach · 13/08/2018 12:58

You know - I’m beginning to believe that every, single one of these ‘can I wear this if I’m over 22’ posts is part of some nefarious campaign to put women in a box.

For heaven’s sake. If you like the thing, bloody wear it! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING MIDDLE AGED! You are still allowed to choose clothes and put them on your body. You don’t need anyone else’s permission or approval.

Really think it’s time MNHQ posted some kind of guidance on women’s freedom to get dressed.

Trainers have been around for decades and, while I'm all for teenagers creating their own style, they need to try a bit harder than nicking our stuff and telling us we can't wear it any more.

That said, if it was me I'd look for some that were less white but that's mainly because I'm messy and they wouldn't stay that colour. There are people of all ages wearing trainers with wide leg trousers at the moment and no reason to feel out of place.

Toto19 · 13/08/2018 12:59

Love them. Wear with jeans slightly rolled up and any top really or jacket. You could wear with leggings and long tunic type top? If you're wearing a coat over the top I'd say a longer coat then they will go with anything!

EdWinchester · 13/08/2018 13:05

Hmm. Not sure. They look like a Storm Trooper's shoes.

Scabetty · 13/08/2018 13:06

I too am 52 yo. I wear white stan smith’s often. With the trainers you have bought you can wear anything you like. I think wider leg, black trousers can look good with trainers with a white t-shirt.

Nebularin · 13/08/2018 13:06

Storm trooper shoes sums them up for me, too. Sorry!

EmmaC78 · 13/08/2018 13:08

My immediate thought was stormtroopers too.

Scabetty · 13/08/2018 13:15

The problem with these threads is that you are asking advice from people whose style you may not like in rl. For instance there’s a hellava lotta sea salt sandal devotees on here so be careful Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 13/08/2018 13:16

Awful. They look like puffy packaging.

Scabetty · 13/08/2018 13:20

Op I googled your trainer and looked at images. They look very soft and versatile. People wear them with jeans, leggings, wide legged trousers. If this is what you wear already then they will be a useful addition. Have a google Smile

Shock
Excuse me. I never wear sandals of any description.

I think the storm trooper comparisons are a tad dramatic. I don't think the op was planning to accessorise with a white suit of armour.

Nebularin · 13/08/2018 13:26

I don't think the op was planning to accessorise with a white suit of armour.

I wouldn't. That would be overkill. Wink

To be fair, I don't 'get' trainers as leisure wear, personally. And I'm not a Seasalt sandals devotee either.

MoltonSilver · 13/08/2018 13:33

I think the storm trooper comment hit the nail on the head.

IwankaTramp · 13/08/2018 13:34

Touch American tourist with bumbag...

Bezm · 13/08/2018 13:39

I wouldn't wear these, not because of my age, but I just don't like them. Just out of interest, my sandals this summer are very chunky doc Martin sandals!

rightknockered · 13/08/2018 14:56

I'm mid 40's and wear much chunkier trainers than those. I don't personally like them, but if you do OP, then you can wear with anything you like

Bugjune · 13/08/2018 15:37

I think the storm trooper comment hit the nail on the head.

It did, funny as feck too.

Rollerbird · 13/08/2018 22:21

Well, I can see where you are coming from.
However I have got them, tried on and I do love them. They are soft and very comfortable.
They were only £39.00 in this colour too if anyone is interested!

@rollerbird that's all that matters then. I'd wear them mainly with jeans if it was me.
