Eyeliner (product) for dummies?

I would like to ask for eyeliner recommendations for someone who is crap at putting it on?

I have tried a cheap liquid one that's like a pot with a felt tip applicator - very obvious my line was wobbly and it smudged. Can't make a nice job of it despite watching several online tutorials!

I've also tried various pencils/kohl (not sure of the difference really!) but I've always had them smudge about and always leave prints on my upper eyelid (I use a good primer too - Urban Decay - so it's not that).

The one I currently have is probably the worst ever so I'm hoping to buy another tomorrow but looking for advice to prevent wasting more money!

It needs to be in brown as I'm very very very pale with nearly invisible eyelashes and eyebrows.

Any ideas?

The most fool-proof one has to be the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner; available in brown and it's a liquid pen, available at Debenhams Smile

My favourite is L'Oreal Infallible gel crayon. It goes on smoothly and is waterproof so stays put.

I'd recommend a cake eyeliner and a fine liner brush. You wet the brush and get a bit of colour on it from the cake because you are in control of the wetness it is much less runny and easier to control.

Laura Mercier and Mac do them I think. If you google you'll find others.

Thank you! I will have a look at these!
