What's gone wrong at Arket?

Of course it had to be the one time I ordered a dress from loads of us mates for a friend's 50th. Then I did a second order for some shoes as well, by way of a Big Present.

Ordered and paid Thursday night. Weds night now, customer services tell me merrily it won't be sent out or even packed for another 2 days.I might see one parcel sometime next week, but they're not making promises.

Three days after the party, then. The site promises 2-3 working days. Not using them again.

Anyway... when does the hold on the money I've paid expire? Wondering if it will cancel itself or whether I have to call them again for 25 minutes.

Did you pay by paypal? if so, take a case out against arket through them. That's a disgrace.

LanaorAna2 · 08/08/2018 20:51

Not good news. Sorry :(

Yes I’m not going to order from them again. I really like the clothes and my delivery arrived within 4-5 days. Returned later the same day and took 3-4 weeks for a refund to happen - today.
Then again H&m used to be poor but is now brilliant in nearly every way ( apart from the bizarre sizing).
There is a comment on their site that returns might take a bit longer than normal.
Why...?
In today’s very ruthless business environment they don’t deserve our custom.

Taking money and not delivering stuff is an effective policy for their cashflow, but it's not acceptable.

I'm not buying from there, ever again. I see I'm not the only customer they've lost, which is a relief as others will know to steer clear.

I've had the same problems with Arket, but also Net a Porter and Toast, 7-10 days in each case to receive the order. Was especially pee'd off with NAP, they are a premium brand and their response when I chased was very dismissive, no word of an apology.

After reading the thread about similar at LK Bennett, I wonder if their is a distribution and logistics problem with the courier network in the UK? NAP and Toast use DHL and Royal Mail, and Arket use DPD, but perhaps the whole system is overworked and understaffed?

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 09/08/2018 07:37

I should add, don't wait for a refund with Arket, yes it's slow and you shouldn't have to chase, but they will automatically process the refund 14 days from the day you return, and they don't quibble or argue about it, it's their policy.

Not the date it's received by them, the date you returned it, so make a note. They also don't hold you to the 30 day return period, I've been told a few days over is fine.

Oh heavens! I ordered something from them recently - after a week they told me the order was cancelled as they would not be able to deliver it. (I assume that simply means they had run out of the item.)

Hadn’t thought of checking my account ...

neveradullmoment99 · 09/08/2018 08:10

I wonder if all these stores struggling is Brexit related. Stores pulling out from the uk before the ship sinks😣

ShopoholicIn · 09/08/2018 08:55

I have not had problem with arket so far but my worse experience has been with John Lewis. First return wasn't paid back till i called their customer services after 1.5 months... thankfully i had an email from them .
Second return to Waitrose and the lady at customer services was extremely rude as i had ordered real tips but was returning as both didn't for

Floisme · 09/08/2018 09:00

This is why I buy less and less online. We are paying to try clothes on.

laramara · 09/08/2018 09:04

On their website they have said there is a delay on sending things, using the sale as an excuse!?

Ellapaella · 09/08/2018 09:07

I've had this multiple times with Topshop as well actually. Ordered stuff and never getting dispatch emails only to be told over a week later it's never going to arrive and they've refunded me. And don't even get me started on their customer services!
Some online retailers seem to get it so right that there doesn't really seem to be any excuse for some to be so shockingly poor. It annoys me that they take your money so easily then faff on for days returning it when they've cocked up.

rightknockered · 09/08/2018 09:10

I ordered a pair of boots from Toast last night and no email to say they've received my order. Plus had issues with PayPal recently, taking the money from my account as authorisation and then another payment on dispatch. Had to raise it with my bank to get the money back - this has happened three times in the past month. I've closed my PP account

FabulousTomatoes · 09/08/2018 09:16

I love arket and I’ve ordered from them twice this summer, but both times I used next day delivery (I felt I could justify the £10 charge as I was paying sale prices) and therefore had no problem. Their returns are slow, so hold on to your despatch receipt and chase them after a couple of weeks. They will refund no problem. It was a bit worrying that they didn’t have record of the return though, so it’s important to hold onto despatch note. & Other Stories are run by same company and are just as slow at returns.

FabulousTomatoes · 09/08/2018 09:17

Oh and I always use my 0% credit card for these orders so less urgency on returns and more security in the purchase.

LanaorAna2 · 09/08/2018 09:56

Thing about credit cards is... you're paying to lend H&M money! They're one of the richest entities on the planet, they make up half the wealth of Sweden :)

Despite our misgivings, more and more of us are shopping online. But I'm going back to bricks and mortar because the system's doing me out of time, money... and shoes. Won't do at all :)

I agree. If it’s a small, independent company I am tolerant. If it’s a conglomerate like Hennes & Mauritz they can fuck right off.
