Help! Can I rescue this smudged nail?!

Just had my nails done and smudged on badly just after getting home. Can anything be done?! Hard to get a good pic but I've tried...

If you go carefully sometimes you can smooth it out by dipping a clean makeup brush in nail polish remover, shake off excess, and brush gently over the nail.

... and then add another layer of topcoat.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Thanks - will give it a go! I'd get away with a bump in such a pale colour but this is a bit more noticible!
