Gucci disco v mulberry

Cakefairy1978 · 07/08/2018 19:40

I'm putting a bag on the plastic for my 40th. Love the disco but unsure of colour. I've heard the nude gets cour transfer but I like mulberry. I will be wearing it across body . I'm 5'6 in height and the Lilly seems weird looking across body. Any suggestions? Has anyone got one?

I prefer the Mulberry. The Gucci is a bit ‘shouty’ with its massive logo.

StylishMummy · 07/08/2018 21:33

I have Mulberry Lily's and Gucci soho discos and the Lily wins hands down every time. They're classic and understated whereas the Gucci is loved by Z-list slebs like the numpties on love island.

Mulberry outlets have the Lily's in for around £625 brand new - I personally love oak or black with silver hardware, goes with everything!

Cakefairy1978 · 08/08/2018 07:04

Thanks ladies. The only thing which worries me about the Lilly is wearing it across the body. I watched a YouTube video and a lady of my height wore it but it didn't sit right. I loved the chain strap though. Confused

I prefer the lily. I’ve got one in Black with hold hardware and goes with anything. Mines regular rather than medium and I wear it on the shoulder, either long or looped double depending on my outfit. I think across body isn’t on trend at the moment personally

Cakefairy1978 · 08/08/2018 07:23

I know it probably isn't on trend but it's so handy lol.i do love the Lilly.

If you get a light colour , do you find cour transfer?

I have a nude Gucci disco and have had no problems with colour transfer

Cheesymonster · 08/08/2018 09:20

I love the look of both bags but if I were purchasing one I would go for the Gucci Soho Disco in black. I have several camera style bags from different brands and the shape is so practical, they fit loads. My friend has a medium lily, it is huge and I have never seen her wear it cross body.

Have you looked at the Gucci marmont camera bag? It comes in three sizes and I think it's cheaper than the Soho Disco. It has the chain detail you like.

shoesoff1 · 08/08/2018 09:34

As much as I love the Soho I feel it’s a bit done now as it was the key it bag so will date much faster.

How about APC or YSL, they have a few different options

I have an oxblood lily and navy with silver hardware . They are very classy and will last for years . In paler colours I have a small pink Amberley satchel which goes with everything and I love it ( although more structured and not as iconic as the lily imo)www.google.co.uk/shopping/product/16582201318748608945?vet=10ahUKEwiKl9mQld3cAhULI8AKHYbTCOoQwu4CCCQ..i&hl=en-gb&lsf=seller:5616302,store:15274390640444032282&lsft=gclid:EAIaIQobChMI3Mykv5Td3AIV7rztCh3pXAWaEAQYASABEgJT-vD_BwE&prds=oid:3972197696224012051&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjzpvaQld3cAhUHBcAKHSalASwQ-NEBKAB6BAgBEAM

Cakefairy, what are you going to use the bag for ie everyday or more going out? If you don't mind me asking what is your budget? Can also suggest a few more different brands to look at?

Mulberry and Gucci both nice. Soho is more casual I think and Lilly bit more dressy. Gucci are trying to push there mamont range now so I agree with one of the other posters that the Soho is a bit done now. However that shouldnt matter if you are not bothered about these things. I personally prefer the Soho to the mamont camera bag style though.

StylishMummy · 09/08/2018 07:51

@Cakefairy1978 spray any bag with Collonil carbon pro, works on any leather and adds a light water resistance which can also help to prevent colour transfer Smile

Girlsworld92 · 09/08/2018 08:06

Have you considered an Aspinal Lottie bag? They are v similar to the Mulberry Lily. I recently got one in the sale and love it. However, if I was choosing between the 2 you have suggested I would go for the Lily. Imo it’s timeless. Check you get the right size for you though as I had a regular but it was a bit too small so I sold it on. They have some stunning colours. The leather smells divine (I’m a bit weird 😂)
Happy 40th.

Girlsworld92 · 09/08/2018 08:12

Sorry one more thing....if you feel the lily sits funny on you keep searching. There are lots of beautiful bags out there you will find the right one. It would be a shame for you to end up not using it because it’s not quite right.

Cakefairy1978 · 09/08/2018 09:25

Everyday really, work, casual etc. I want to get the use from it

Great tip re: colour transfer. Thanks...off to buy products

i've tried both of them on a recent shopping trip actually and they are both very beautiful but different.

the soho disco is very trend driven and the lily is a timeless classic.

i have decided that i'm going for the lily in the next sale, provided there is a blue or oxblood with discount.

i know what you mean about strap length though, im 5 ft 9 and its not quite long enough as a cross body but i've noticed that recently cross body straps have been shorter in a good amount of bags on models and on websites.

India1819 · 09/08/2018 09:54

If you're anywhere near bicester village they sometimes have Lilys on sale. I've definitely seen Oxblood before. The Boxing Day sale is always really good too. I got a croc Lily in black for £695 this year!

India1819 · 09/08/2018 09:55

If you want casual i'd go for medium lily over regular. The regular is more dressy IMO.
