Whatever the weather forecast says, take something waterproof, and something warm. But if it does turn out warm venues will be very hot, so you also need a t-shirt or two. Make sure you've got the sort of footwear you can walk distances and stand in queues in. I'd suggest checking out the station's left luggage facilities so you don't have to carry your bag around on the last day - it'll be a pain to drag into various venues.

Nothing different to what you would wear at home really! I’m in Edinburgh and it’s warm, muggy and very prone to rain at the minute! You only need dressy if you going somewhere a bit posh otherwise casual/smart casual is good.

Comfortable shoes for walking on cobbles, brolly, lightweight knit/wrap to layer in the evening, if you have a fan take one as some venues are roasting hot in this heat. Water bottle. Comfy clothes - anything goes for the festival. Personally I'd chuck it all in a rucksack rather than carrying a case if you have to walk to accommodation etc and have a lightweight rucksack or zip up cross body bag for the day for hands free access for drinks in courtyards (and deter pickpockets who are rife in festival season). Hope you have a great time!

Shoes for running about in.

dementedma · 04/08/2018 22:08

as above. comfy shoes, waterproof, hoodie to chuck on if it gets chilly - it will.
oh and tons of money because the Festival is one massive rip off and Edinburgh sees you coming at this time of year!

bluebellsparkles · 04/08/2018 22:38

all that the others have said, a layer to wear in the evening as it cooled down quick tonight. no need to dress dressy unless you're going clubbing or somewhere fancy

I would agree with previous posters, waterproof (easier than an umbrella in the crowds), comfy shoes/boots, layers to accommodate the 4 seasons in one day, also comfy socks that don't chafe. Maybe SPF (although you can obviously buy that here) and a hat as I think it is meant to heat up over coming week and a mini fan. I don't know if you'll need to get buses (I'm guessing you could be staying at Pollock Halls which are fairly central) but LRT buses are exact change only. Someone up thread mentioned left luggage at the station for your last day - I read on another Edinburgh thread recently that the lockers at the Edinburgh Bus Station off St Andrew's Square are cheaper than the lockers at Waverley train station - I don't know if it's true but worth checking out perhaps. Also allow plenty of time to get from venue to venue as it will be very busy. I hope you have a great time!

Thanks everyone.
I am packing now and then off to the airport. I will let you know how it goes.
I packed crop leggings , long vest tops, cotton hoodies, thin scarves, trainers, espadrilles and a thin waterproof.
Tell me soon if I need anything else.

Waterproof it always pours during the festival. And good walking shoes as Edinburgh is hilly, there will be no taxis and venues can be quite spread out.

Also, if you are going to the Tattoo remember you can't put up an umbrella to protect yourself from the deluge as it blocks the view. it can also get VERY cold up on the esplanade at night so do wram up warmly.
I'm very lucky in that work pays for me to go so looking forward to it agian this year.

thedevilinablackdress · 05/08/2018 17:42

Longer leggings and/or trousers. It will be chilly at some point.
