I'm so fed up of buying winter boots that only last one year. Can anyone recommend a brand that makes boots designed to last??
I'm looking for biker style preferably, must be leather. Will spend up to about £250. I have very wide feet!

I've looked at Frye because I've heard they're great and they ship to uk, but I'd rather buy something I can return easily.

Can anyone help me?

Doctor Martens last for years.

ontheearth · 01/08/2018 18:01

Have you thought about Dubarrys? They might be slightly over your budget, but totally worth it ime.

Mumshotel · 01/08/2018 18:03

DMs are amazing

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 01/08/2018 18:05

I have looked at doc martens and I do like the lace up ones but I need something a bit more multi purpose - something I can dress up a bit iyswim.

Will check out dubarry, thanks.

Camper. I have had a pair for years and they're in great nick.
Don't know if their boots are out yet tho. Some of their styles are pretty outlandish but they usually have some classic stuff too.

Fiorentini & Baker - best boots ever! Had mine 10yrs and they still look amazing.
Belstaff trailamster also great. Both £££ but worth it imo

Those Fiorentini & Baker boots are absolutely gorgeous. Way over budget unfortunately though...

Not sure Camper have what I'm after, but thanks Smile

DM do biker boots which I think look smarter than the lace-ups. I used to love the lace ups but I don't feel like wearing the same footwear as in my teens.

Wait another 2-3 weeks, all the shops will start previewing their AW18 boots. Sales will kick in for last seasons remaining stock. If you have are very small 3/4 or large 8/9 then you need to buy early. Ask about additional width fittings, they do exist but often have to be ordered in. Don't just look at what they have on the shelf.

Bearpaw boots, amazingly comfortable and last years. I have quite a lot of pairs, and usually get them from Amazon, but the website it a great place to view all the styles.

Yarnswift · 01/08/2018 18:55

When you say winter do you mean proper winter or just south of the UK bit chilly winter? We talking metres of snow or just chilly rain?

If the former look for the Vibram arctic grip soles - they are really good on ice even at angles. Sorel are good, Baffin and some of the Columbia models too.

If the latter, Kavat are good and wide, try Teva and Born as well.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 01/08/2018 18:59

I just mean uk winter. I'm not talking hiking either - I have boots for that. Just something warm and comfortable to wear with jeans or tights and dresses.

Some good ideas, thanks!

I bought some Chelsea boots from Jones for about £120 or so and they're going strong three years later. Have had them reheeled in that time.

PurpleArmy · 01/08/2018 19:06

My El Naturalista have lasted me 12 years and still going strong, the leather is amazing.

My DMs are going pretty well too, buy brown or black not the colours as they fade terribly.

TeamEponine · 01/08/2018 19:07

I love clarks boots. Plus they do wide fittings. They last me 3-4 years and are usually around £150.

Moominfan · 01/08/2018 19:12

Gabor do long boots. Simple classic styles, under 200 quid. Well made i expect them to last. Im on sevond year snd they still look great. Sort of like www.gaborshoes.co.uk/womens-c1/boots-c3/brook-s-womens-long-boots-p19193
