Advice please for capsule wardrobe for weekend away 3rd weekend in Sept.
I will have just returned from hols so I should have a bit of tan and some summer clothes but obviously I have no idea what the weather will be like. My budget will be tight. I am tall and a size 20 tall and prefer navy, khaki, beige and browns to black and I enjoy wearing bright colors as I find they lift my mood.
Itinerary
Fri night - informal drinks/tapas - ok jeans or trousers and nice top
Sat day - quad biking (I have never done this and have absolutely no idea what to wear or how muddy I am likely to get but think I may have to wear a helmet so my hair will be flattened and will feel dirty and need washed again). After this we are having a walk to a country pub. Then we are having a meal and the dress code is ‘dress to impress’ for dinner. This is my worst nightmare as I am usually a comfy casual dresser.
Sun BBQ - the weather could go either way. I would like to think the weather would be nice and I would be ok with a nice dress or jumpsuit but equally it could be pouring down and I could be freezing the latter is unlikely as I am usually hot. I have seen a khaki jumpsuit on ASOS tall but it looks very low cut and I am not sure I can dress it up enough.
Then Sunday eve travel home. Thank you for your help.

This dress would be great for your dress to impress. It’s very comfortable. I have it in navy and black. Get long length if you want it below knee. You could get lovely bright jewellery to go with it

Boden is also good for separates that would work for your BBQ and pub lunch. It’s expensive but lasts ages

Waltzingmatilda65 · 26/07/2018 18:09

It’s a lovely dress Oly5 but I am 50 so prefer midi length to hide my knees these days also at a size 20 I don’t think I could rock such a fitted style of dress. I think maybe midi length would be more flattering but I know that length is often more casual,

dorothy perkins I have this in navy and have recommended it several times lately. It is so comfortable and good for casual but could be dressed up a bit.
nice wrap dress
pink

What about this one?
m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/clearance/womens-dresses/smart-day-dresses/w0121-brd/womens-rosehip-primrose-ruth-midi-dress?cm_mmc=PLA--Google956468600--48384833755-_-40058878&_cclid=v3_2d5af96b-4ba0-5ebc-a3ea-00faeeaaf989&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhPm_zaK93AIVL7ftCh0bGQsSEAQYAiABEgKcavD_BwE
In fact, you could just go through all the Boden dresses online and see what you like. I’m 41 and find them flattering. If I don’t want to go for an obvious print then I dress up a darker dress with statement jewellery in oranges and yellows.
Other places to try are Hobbs and maybe White Company for something for your Sunday lunch.
What’s your budget?

How about this dress, it would look great with strappy heels

My budget is as little as possible now I can probably only stretch to one new outfit now.

I have these dresses for my holidays so I could maybe wear the stripe one for the dress to impress if it’s dressy enough with statement jewellery and the floral one for the BBQ if you think either of these would do for either of these would do? I have a bright pashmina that would go with both if it’s cooler. Although they are both very similar colors. Then I may just have one outfit to buy.
What would you suggest I wear for the quad biking and walk to pub? I am just trying to get organised as the second half of August and all of September is pretty busy for me.
Thanks

The dresses look good. I'd wear jeans/leggings and a casual top for the quad biking/pub - chances are you're going to get filthy

Waltzingmatilda65 · 26/07/2018 19:12

Or would either of these jumpsuits work for either BBQ or formal meal dress to
Impress from ASOS Tall range with my hair done and statement jewellery providing they fit ok and don’t emphasise my tummy?

The stripes are lovely for dress to impress. Wear heels. And the other one is good for pub lunch. Pashminas are middle aged and fussy (in my view). If you can, buy a
Cashmere cardigan in a neutral colour (beige or grey for example) that you can wear again and again. Don’t like the jumpsuits I’m afraid, I think you need to be stuck thin for jumpsuits (my opinion)

Oly5 · 26/07/2018 22:28

Stick thin that should say!

Waltzingmatilda65 · 26/07/2018 22:51

Thanks Oly5 I am definitely not stick thin thanks for honest feedback.
I will leave the pashmina at home. The pub is straight after the quad biking I believe so would wear whatever I wore for that and hope I am not too muddy. Personally I don’t like cardigans unless big and baggy which would swamp this dress also with a fitted Cashmere cardigan they look old lady on me not being petite and slim and also the proportions aren’t right on me with being so tall.

For the dress to impress bit get a maxi dress. A front tie cashmere cardigan is more flattering and can be positioned just so.

IwankaTramp · 27/07/2018 09:59

Re quad biking- denim leggings, good quality leather boots and a slouchy lightweight knit you can layer under if necessary. All neutrals.

Waltzingmatilda65 · 27/07/2018 15:25

The dress to impress is indoors so I should be ok cardie less heat wise as in early 50’s I have my own summers 😂

I will check out Long tall Sally and see what they have in the way of trousers/leggings/jeans that’s both comfy (won’t stop my circulation), practical and isn’t too young for me and will be ok for quad biking and the pub and to wear again afterwards.
