Which Le Pliage Tote?

Lotsofhappysmiles · 26/07/2018 17:22

I'm looking to get a Le Pliage, but overwhelmed by the choice.

I've narrowed it down to the Tote, as I prefer a long handled bag to wear over my shoulder.

But which size and colour should I get?

The large looks mahoosive, and the small is too small to carry anything of note.

I need to carry wallet, phone, sunglasses, keys, small makeup bag, bottle of water, A5 notebook and pen as a bare minimum. There are times when I would like to use it as a beach bag, so additionally carry beach towel, suncream, reading book / kindle.

What you recommend?

And what colour would you suggest, to go with everything?

I hope this is not an impossible ask!
Thanks.

I have the medium (now named small I think but might be wrong) long handled in navy blue. It holds tons due to the wide base, would definitely hold everything you mention day to day but if you add in your beach items regularly then I'd go for large. The large looked huge to me although I only carry purse, keys, phone and small make up pouch daily. I do see more people with the large. The colour I'm really happy with, looks great with everything.

For something a little different, I also have a small Neo in black which is the one with a cross body strap. Also very roomy despite being "small".

I agree with the above poster. I've got the long handle in navy for work. Trouble is, if you buy too big a tote, the weight starts to hurt your shoulder... But definitely go for long handles so you can hoist them over your shoulder or carry in your hand, and choose a classic plain colour that goes with your wardrobe basics.

Lotsofhappysmiles · 26/07/2018 22:28

Thanks for the input.

Can I ask Cheesymonster, what are the dimensions of your medium tote?

Is navy a popular colour? More suggestions anyone?

I'd go for navy or black as it goes with most things. A very practical bag but I got a Ralph Lauren nylon tote instead. Cheaper and looks fantastic. (Sorry to add another bag in but I just love it!)

dinosaurkisses · 26/07/2018 22:38

I have about six of these- I haven’t bought another style or brand of handbag in about eight years since I got my first one!

The medium will definitely carry all your day to day stuff- they look small but the wide base means they’re like Mary Poppins carpet bag.

The large will carry all your normal stuff plus a light jacket and scarf easily.

I love how light they are and when my lightly coloured ones have got a bit stubby I’ve stuck them in for a quick cycle in the washing machine and they come out as good as new

25x26x14cm - it's this one

I have literally never heard of le pillage but there are 3 threads tonight giving it heavy promotion so I'm not even going to Google it. crosses arms

I just use a backpack for day to day with baby and small children. I have a changing mat/nappy and wipes storage fold out combo thing that fits inside amongst the shreddies and receipts and general detritus.

Cheesymonster · 27/07/2018 01:42

Sorry! The large is 30x31x19cm and selfridges website has modelling shots which I found helpful.

RedDwarves · 27/07/2018 01:54

I've got black, long-handled in medium. I like it. The size is perfect. The only thing that fucks me off - and this isn't specific to the Le Pliage - is the lack of structure/firm base. It means your shit falls all over the place throughout the day. This is particularly irritating if you're using it for a work bag and you have to rifle through everything to find the one thing you wanted because in the car trip on the way to the office, everything has fallen into a heap.

How does this work with the leather handles?

SpeckledyHen · 27/07/2018 05:54

The Longchamp sub forum on The Purse Forum has all the info you need to help you decide . It’s fantastic .

SpeckledyHen · 27/07/2018 05:57

RedDwarves have you considered a bag organiser ? I use my Samorga one that I bought for a couple of Mulberry bags and it’s perfect .

Lotsofhappysmiles · 27/07/2018 09:45

Thanks everyone, I wasn't expecting so many replies!

I think the small is most suitable, thanks for the measurements Cheesy.

Still undecided on colour, but will head over to the Purse Forum, great idea Speckledy.

I was going to get something like this for tech stuff, keys etc.

Will be back when I'm sorted, you have all been so helpful Smile.

Don't get one like mine which is small/narrow base and pale blue, with short handles. It was from a very small selection when I got it, 20 years ago in a DF shop somewhere. It does wash pretty well, though now showing it's age. It tends to live inside a capacious handbag, folded, as a small shopping bag most of the time.

CointreauVersial · 27/07/2018 15:48

Colour-wise, I have two. One is khaki, which goes with pretty much anything. One is purple, because it's just a lovely colour.

I found the black and navy were a little dull. Beware of the lighter colours because they show the dirt.

BubblesBuddy · 27/07/2018 16:00

30x30 is way too small for a beach towel. You cannot really buy a small shoulder bag and expect it to take a towel as well. I think the large or medium travel bags are better. You fold them up and then use them for the beach when you arrive. They can also be used as a carry on bag. We have the 60x40 size.

I don’t like the shoulder handles. Too thin and dig in. Both DD and I like the ones with tote handles. Much more comfortable if bag is a bit heavy. The maroon colour at the moment is fab and won’t get grubby. Navy is a tad boring.

Lotsofhappysmiles · 27/07/2018 16:39

Good point about the beach towel Bubbles. I was hoping to avoid getting a second bag for the beach. I'm using a rucksack at the moment, and I wanted something nicer.

I have 2, a Neo in purple that I bought from eBay and a cedar green. Both are the same size (large, long handles) which was a small error in my part - I bought the green one second and thought it was smaller than my Neo but they are identical in size.
I'm using one as a work bag at the moment to cart around my maternity notes, purse, A5 notebook, kindle, various chargers, phone, and foldable shopping bags which it's a bit big for, but it would be a great beach bag and I have done an overnight stay with it.

Lotsofhappysmiles · 27/07/2018 18:07

Thanks hammering.

I'm going to have a ponder Hmm.

I'll be back soon. The large is now a contender, grrr!

OP - how about buying both on-line if the funds allow , trying them with your stuff , and return the one that isn’t the winner ?

Lotsofhappysmiles · 27/07/2018 23:42

I have ordered the small in navy, as I reckon that will be ideal 95% of the time.

Thank you all for your suggestions Smile.

Back with a quick update - have been using for a few weeks now!

The medium is great for everyday use. Have been using as a work bag, and carry purse, phone, keys, small makeup bag, notebook and pen. Still use my laptop bag as well, but that's by choice. I didn't want to put the whole lot in one huge (and heavy) bag.

Also been away for a couple of days and the navy colour was perfect.

Thanks for your input and recommendations, I couldn't be more pleased Smile.
