Is £120 for cut and colour a reasonable price?

Just wondering, I paid my hairdresser about £120 for cut and colour, is that normal?
I like the result I have to say, but it does seem quite a lot to me.
It is a nice Aveda salon on the high street.

I think it’s more about the stylist than the salon. My one used to charge over £100 for cut and colour because that she was an employee and that’s what the salon charged. She moved along to a salon nearby where she works for herself and charges almost half. My hair looks the same. You’re not always paying higher for better quality.

I wouldn't consider it to be reasonable nor value for money but I believe it's the going rate in a lot of salons. I'd never pay that.

Justanotheruser01 · 28/07/2018 07:50

Mine is £40/45 local hairdressers but does it as well as an expensive one does far as I can see. Cant really see point in the £180 ones!

PUGaLUGS · 28/07/2018 07:54

I would say definitely normal.

annandale · 28/07/2018 07:58

Not reasonable, but it's a bit less than what I pay Blush

I go twice a year, I love the salon, adore the colourist, feel and look better for it. I spent years cutting my own hair and all my family's hair and gloomily watching the grey take over. I hope to be able to afford it for the rest of my life but who knows.

tappitytaptap · 28/07/2018 18:51

I have paid just shy of 90 today for cut, colour (balayage/highlights) and olaplex. Included a trim for my 2 yr old DS. I'm in a northern city.

dementedma · 28/07/2018 18:53

wow! I'm genuinely shocked that's how much people pay.
Might explain why i don't look well groomed and glamorous though....

PinkHeart5914 · 28/07/2018 18:56

Mine is £180 for cut and colour! Admittedly at a very nice salon and I’ve seen the same lady for years, after a bad experience many years ago I’m just glad to now have a decent hairdresser so it’s worth every penny to me.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/07/2018 18:58

That’s exactly what I paid for the same today - are you me? Shock

brainepson · 28/07/2018 18:58

Yes, about right.

sar501 · 28/07/2018 19:03

I used to pay £50 for a cut and highlights from my local mobile hairdresser. I think she charges £55 now though. I couldn’t justify spending £120 on my hair on a regular basis though although OP probably has way more disposable income than me!

Me too dementedma! On the rare occasion I get my haircut I pay £20 including tip and when I did colour my hair (I’m now embracing my grey so my hair is a stylish ‘grombre’ Grin) I paid a fiver for a home dye kit

expatmigrant · 28/07/2018 19:49

yes about right for Aveda salon. If you like it and it makes you feel good, it is worth every penny

Lindorballs · 28/07/2018 19:55

Sounds normal to me. I pay £100-120 for a cut and colour in a south west city. I alternate between a full head of foils and a t section to save a bit. My hair is quite long so I only get the cut done every other time. I go 5-6 x a year. It is expensive but then I think it works out about £2/day over the whole year and you wear your hair every day don’t you Grin

Lindorballs · 28/07/2018 19:57

Should also say I’ve tried several hairdressers in my city and it’s always been about the same so I don’t think there’s any major bargains to be had unless you switch to a mobile one

PugwallsSummer · 30/07/2018 12:10

£160 here for highlights, cut and Olaplex

wellhonestly · 30/07/2018 13:11

Fifty quid here, small town near Edinburgh, again not a chain salon. Just the one overall colour and no blow-dry.

CocoaGin70 · 30/07/2018 13:13

I pay around £90 per time and that's a small quiet local salon.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 13:17

Those of you who think it is normal - where do you live?

In my part of South Yorkshire I could get 2 cut and colours at that price.

MadMaryBoddington · 30/07/2018 13:19

Mine costs £210. South east.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/07/2018 13:26

That's 4 salon visits for me MadMary, and I have a senior stylist do my hair (small market town in Yorkshire)

NorthernSpirit · 30/07/2018 13:36

Yes, that sounds right. Aveda is a premium offering.

I go to an Aveda Salon outside London, I pay £58 for a cut and £62 for a full head of colour.
