Help me find an outfit...

...for Goodwood Races in August.

DH has just informed me I need to attend with him for a business networking thing. Some kind of VIP package has been booked and I need to dress to impress. Ugh! I hate this kind of thing and would never want to go off my own back, but it will really help DH's business so I can't let him down. Please MNers, help me find an outfit! I need the whole shebang - clothes, shoes, fascinator & bag.

  • Nothing too pricey please, (nothing along the lines of Gucci, Armani etc. I can just about stretch to department store labels)
  • Something that covers my upper arms (small but hideous teenage-mistake tattoo on upper right arm that I want to disguise)
  • I don't like tight / bodycon style clothing as I suffer with IBS and suffer with unpredictable and bad bloating that makes me look pregnant.
  • I'm a short-arse 5ft2" size 8-10 with a biggish round bum, small boobage and a thick middle
  • Nothing ridiculously short (Just above knee would be as short as I'd prefer, but ideally I'd like midi / mid-calf length)
  • I don't do jumpsuits, I look like a baby in a romper suit
  • I can't handle heels above 3"

I'm stressing about this and really don't want to spend several days trawling shops feeling clueless! I've never done the whole 'dressing up for the races' malarkey. Thanks.

Have you got an outfit from a recent wedding you've been to? The dress code is pretty much the same. If not, I'll hand you over to the experts...

No, sadly not DontCallMeCharlotte I haven't been to a wedding for over 10 years.

The last special occasion dress I bought was a LBD for a winter 30th birthday party.

Well for starters...

Maybe something like this - to cover up the arms? I too have a thicker middle and find this shape surprisingly flattering.

Sainsburys are doing these shoes in various colours...

And fascinators are ten-a-penny at Debenhams.

P.S. I'm absolutely not claiming to be an expert by the way!
