What type of skincare regime should I have now I’m of “a certain age” ie starting to look a little haggard....

Currently moisturize once a day- never remember to do anymore than that

If be interested in reading replies to this thread.

Currently I cleanse, tone, apply eye cream and then moisturise. I do this twice a day and use day/night cream. I sometimes get spots (despite being 38) and when I have them, I put on aloe Vera gel with added tea tree oil (got a big tube of it from Holland and Barrett).

I would like to incorporate some kind of serum/oil into my night time routine to even my skin tone and combat signs of ageing!

Well mrsoutnumbered inspired me last night to at least moisturise! I've thought about going and asking at a beauty counter but assumed they'd sell me loads of stuff! Just wondering what the basics are really?

I’m 45 and have minimal routine of cleanse, moisturise, spf in morning & retinol x2 weekly in evening.

I’ve tried acids, masks, eye creams etc and to be honest I haven’t found they’ve made much difference. I also had a bad case of perioral dermatitis last year so am trying not to overload my skin. Being frugal though I’m still finishing off an eye cream and serum as I wouldn’t just bin them.

I’ve learnt that skincare is very much individual, what works for someone else might not work for you, and it can be trial and error to find what suits you :-)

Retinol, Vitamin C and sunscreen are your best friends. As well as double cleansing.

I think double cleansing has made the best inroads in to getting my skin glowing, as it gets rids of all makeup at the end of the day, clearing out pores and getting rid of dead skin. I do tart around with products, but follow the basics of a balm/ oil cleanser for the "first" cleanse and then a gel for the "second" cleanse.

I have generally been using a retinol or retinoid every other night from The Ordinary, but have recently been trying Dr Dennis Gross Retinol and Ferulic Acid serum. Bloody expensive, but skin is lovely and smooth in the morning.

Every morning, after cleansing, I use Paula's Choice BHA 2% to exfoliate, which keeps spots at bay, and then I use a Vitamin C serum, topped off with an SPF50 (mineral sunscreen).

I have other things, like masks and various face creams, but it is very hit and miss what I remember to use.

There is loads of information on the web and a lot to get your head around. But I think a few key products really does help.

Ok so cleansing (rather than grabbing a baby wipe to remove make up!) is now on my list as an essential

Is this all twice a day?

What ranges are good? I'd tend to just pick up some supermarket stuff- that generally ok?
