Where are all the curly hair stylists?

I follow the Curly Girl method so do low/no poo and cowashing only. My hair could do with a trim so I called up a few salons to ask whether they have any stylists who specialise in cutting curly hair i.e. dry cut. One told me that there is no such thing as a curly hair method (yeah, right) and all of them said that they only do wet cut.

So what do I do? Should I go to my regular salons, explain what I want and hope for the best?

There are a few in London but they are booked up 3 months in advance - have google. I think to cut dry curls goes against everything they have been taught - you need a very open minded hairdresser.

@passonthemessage - exactly! They all seem to have been trained to cut wet haso are extremely reluctant to cut dry hair.

I'm not going all the way to London (I live in Surrey) for a haircut. I think I'll just go to my regular stylist, explain to within an inch of her life and hope for the best.

I went to a few hairdressers till I found one prepared to read Lorraine Massey's book and give it a go for me !

Mine rough cuts wet, then dries and refines the shape of each curl when it's dry. One of the best hairdressers I've used in 62 years. Devon, if that helps.

I know an excellent hairdresser who washes curly hair, dries it with a hairdryer into big Afro, cuts it, wets it down again and styles. He's amazing with curls. Not in uk sadly.

Trepadora in Maidenhead, Berkshire is very good. Depending on where you are in Surrey, that may be an option. If you have a proper curly cut it only needs cutting about every 6 to 9 months.

@Sedona, thank you, that helps a lot. Maidenhead isn't as far as London for me so will give them a ring.

I cut mine myself for this reason Wink
Look at the unicorn cut, it is so easy and so effective

I am as far from London as you.

I would recommend Lindsey Hughes. You only need to go every 6-8 months and she is a genius. She only does curlies.

Curly Girls UK FB group has a map of stylists. If you join the group, search for map it brings up the link. They categorise by type of training. This link might work! Curly Girl Method friendly stylists goo.gl/maps/zw5WhRLKuhG2

Passonthemessage · 22/07/2018 21:00

Thanks for the link, I have joined that group!

@forsalechesterdrawers, thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for.
