Is that the supposed to be the folding Panama hat they sell? i tried one in the store and after folding it opened much better than that

marmiteloversunite · 19/07/2018 14:01

Wow!! Packaging fail!!

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2018 14:03

I thought that too Curley after all, surely noones that stupid right? But I’ve tried to straighten it out and it’s got crush “creases”

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2018 14:04

It’s been in a parcel with a King Size duvet set and it’s proper fucked.

Wow, dreadful packaging. I'd be fuming.

If you want to keep it, maybe steam it and stretch it over a head sized bowl til creases are out?
Do the head part first, and the rim part afterwards?

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2018 14:28

I considered that reasons and then I thought, too much faff and this thing was £50 and of it isn’t perfect first wear it’ll never get worn again.

So I included a stiffly worded note and returned it to the post office.

I’m just curious cross that when Marks finally have something I really, really want they fuck it up.

I can’t dorectly blame them that the PO is next to the bakers and I now have a gypsey tart with my tea, but I’m cross so I will.

£50 for a hat? Shock

BringMeTea · 19/07/2018 14:36

I had a look at panama hats online recently. Some were in the 4 and 500s Adorabelle. I got one from h and m for 8 quid. Grin

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2018 14:42

Is there a limit on what i should’ve spent on a hat Lipwig? The H&M ones didn’t suit me Sad

I got one in Tesco that withstood DS sittingnon it in the car for an hour. It was cheap so I was pleasantly surprised.

For £50 I’d want it to be perfect. You’d think they’d package it in a box.

aperolspritzplease · 19/07/2018 15:11

That's not great.

I've got a packable one from Sainsbury's of all places. Bloody brilliant.

TSSDNCOP · 19/07/2018 15:19

Aperol is it white with a black band? If so I’ll go in and look.

BellaAAA20 · 19/07/2018 15:27

Oh dear! Decent Panama hats are not cheap but clearly the packaging is unsuitable. I would contact them and see what they say. They should at least be told there is a problem.

I received a dress from them once that was scrunched up into a ball with plastic around it. Generally these days, they have improved.

marmiteloversunite · 19/07/2018 16:15

You would have thought that as it is a foldable hat they would have folded it and protected it with cardboard.

Bombardier25966 · 19/07/2018 16:41

You do realise that a note in the package does nothing? The item will be scanned back in by a warehouse operative, anything else will be binned.

It's annoying but these things happen. Either reorder (and chance it happening again) or go to a store.

Timefortea99 · 19/07/2018 19:22

I bought a raincoat from a M & S store the other day. Had to buy a plastic bag as I did not have a spare with me. The SA got the small carrier bag (too small for the Mac) and attempted to squeeze it in, scrunched up. I told her it would not fit. She insisted it would. I said it would be completely crumpled. I went and got another one and asked her to put it in a big bag. Neither of us came away from this encounter liking each other, but one of us was attempting to take home a garment they had paid for without it looking like origami at the other end. I took the coat back for a refund. I know it was petty but everytime I saw it, it reminded me of her and that shit shopping experience!

Jellylover · 19/07/2018 19:29

On the positive side, I've got that duvet cover and it's lovely

ilovecherries · 19/07/2018 20:07

OP, I collected the same hat today from my local M&S food. It was at the bottom of the cubby hole, with about a dozen other packages squeezed in on top of it. I opened it in front of the SA and it was crushed so badly that it was unusable - it wasn’t folded, it was actually crumpled and crushed with hard creases. I asked her to note on the receipt that it had arrived in the condition (which she did do), but of course she couldn’t refund it, and now I have to travel to my nearest M&S clothes store 25 miles away to return the bloody thing. I know I could post it back, but to be honest, don’t want to wait for my money back now as I will need to find something else. Was really cross. Like you, first thing I’ve loved from there for ages.

YouWereRight · 19/07/2018 20:15

It probably just slid around on its way to you. If they'd sent it in its own box, you'd just moan about the excessive packaging. The whole m&s bashing is boring.

TSSDNCOP · 20/07/2018 07:40

Youwereright how wrong you are.

Packaging in a simple brown box would’ve sufficed. I would’ve then recycled.

As it is, I had to drive to the PO to return it which was pretty wasteful, if that’s what you’re concerned about.

I’ve been to the store many times, the size I want isn’t there hence the order.

I take the point about the note in the returns package not being read. I don’t think though I’d get any more of their interest by complaining to customer services.

jelly you’re dead right, it’s about the 5th one ive bought. Looks lovely, no ironing, good price.

TSSDNCOP · 20/07/2018 07:44

cherries that’s absolutely infuriating. A simple card box would have avoided all that.

On the plus side, I can see that it would’ve travelled really badly and likely wouldn’t have made it to next year.
