Nice smelling hair ?!

Hi does anyone have any tips on how to get your hair to get that super fresh clean smell?! No matter what shampoo / conditioner / serum etc my hair doesn't seem to retain that smell and I'm always jealous when I can smell other people's hair!

This is not meant in a weird way !! And my hair doesn't smell bad - it's clean, just smells of nothing and I love the freshly washed smell!

Is it maybe because my hair is too porous / dry from 20 years of being highlighted and many being straightened / curled / messed around with? All tips gratefully received !

I don't really know what you mean tbh. Do you want your hair to smell of the product or have no smell?

Most hair takes on the smell of the products used- I prefer low perfume products because they can clash with my own perfume.

All I can suggest is you wash it twice if need be, and rinse, rinse, rinse.

I used to use Aussie and everyone said my hair smelled nice (from the product) and i've now changed to Kiehls which smells of coconut.

cowgirlblues · 18/07/2018 08:43

I mean to smell of the products - mine just smells of nothing rather than smelling nice ! When I use Aussie my hair retains no smell. Thanks - will try double wash !

Ogx teatree mint shampoo absolutely embeds a smell of After Eight mints. Only used one bottle because I kept wanting chocolate.

I buy hair fragrance
Either angel or chanel coco madamoiselle

But you can get cheaper ones

Loreal Dream Lengths range is the only thing that leaves a smell on my hair. And it smells so nice, like perfume rather than shampoo.

If you don’t want to use the shampoo or conditioner, they do a cream for split ends which doesn’t make your hair feel greasy etc which is the strongest smelling of them. You can put it on dry hair too.

I find the Dove “Oxygen” range leaves a scent in my hair for a day.

cowgirlblues · 18/07/2018 19:10

Thanks for recommendations !! Will try Dove and L'Oréal dream lengths. Glad it's not just me that suffers with the non-smelling hair 😂

It may be that you can’t dmrll the product on your own hair? Like you’ve got used to your own smell?

lostfrequencies · 18/07/2018 19:41

When I used to try to hide the smell of smoke in my hair at college I'd spray my hairbrush with charlie red body spray perfume.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2018 19:42

I’ve never noticed my hair smelling of anything until I tried the Dove one. I couldn’t work out what it was at first!

cowgirlblues · 18/07/2018 22:37

Off to buy Dove tomorrow !!! Wonder if it is that I can't smell my own hair? I just always feel I can smell other people's hair and it sounds lovely and fresh and mine doesn't smell that fresh !!!

It might be that you go “nose blind” I guess. Mine only smells for a day.

Like laundry smells - you notice other people’s more than your own.

I’ll feel bad if you can’t smell the Dove now 😂

Butterfly1975 · 18/07/2018 22:45

I love the Percy & Reed hair fragrance and shine spray which smells of rainy days! Got a tester size in the recent M&S beauty box and will definitely buy the full size.

AsleepAllDay · 18/07/2018 22:47

My hair smells of nothing too! Just clean - sometimes the smell of dry shampoo sticks around but it just stays totally neutral

cowgirlblues · 18/07/2018 23:42

Dove, Percy and Reed and L'Oréal now all on my list! I WILL have great smelling hair !

I understand OP- I'm constantly jealous of those women who's hair you can actually smell and it smells freshly washed and they seem just...high functioning and feminine (don't care if it sounds weird) - I think I've finally solved the problem by using a conditioner with a decently strong scent every time (lee stafford currently), I used to just shampoo (I'm lazy) and my hair retained none of the lovely smell at all.
It might not be the scent you're after but I also use the Garnier ultimate blends hair oil- a bit through dry hair makes it smell nice. It smells of vanilla though so not that 'fresh shampoo smell'
Scented shine sprays also work for a bit. Check boots for the minis in the travel bit to avoid buying a huge bottle.
Maybe we are just nose blind to our own hair smell though and wasting our energy on this- how tragic Grin

I use a herbal essences shampoo and conditioner, the scent of that seems to stick around for ages. (I just sniffed my hair, yup, still there.) It's the daily detox volume one, crimson orange and mint. (I used to use the daily detox clean shampoo and conditioner, but that actually made my hair feel a bit dry! And it smelt like washing up liquid.)

babyyorkie · 19/07/2018 13:48

I second Herbal Essences- just had a sniff of my pony tail lol and smells lovely!

LaLaLolly · 19/07/2018 13:55

Kevin Murphy's Angel Wash is in a different league; I've never smelled a hair product quite like it and the scent lingers for 48 hours.

It's expensive, but a thing of beauty

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 19/07/2018 16:11

Another herbal essences fan here.
